mfk4.jpg mfk5.jpg Hi everyones, i just bought a goliath tigerfish for 2 weeks and when i come near it it try to smash his head on the glass :( and when i turn on the light, i think it seem to be calmer, anyones know how to make it calm and don't be shy ???? i've heard that starve it will make it calmer ?? And my tigerfish star to replace new teeth so how long does this process take ? Thanks you guys a lots!

Cutting teeth takes about a week. That's part of the reason he's so sketchy right now.

To help him calm down, allow only dim lighting into the tank. If you put things like towels on the edges of the tank for a few days, that will help him to not damage himself by smashing into the edge of the tank while he's settling.

Being shy and flighty is the nature of all tiny silver fish. Right now, he is food for larger fish and his temperament reflects that. When he gets up to 6-8 inches, he'll calm down tremendously. He's likely to be a very difficult fish to keep for the next month or three.

First of all, it's really cool that you found and kept the teeth. Seems like they shed/replace their teeth about once per month or so. you'll be able to tell because their jaws and gums will be swollen and the teeth will be absent of course after they've fallen out. if I remember right, it takes 3 or 4 days for the new ones to slide into place. they dont eat during this time for the most part. but they are ravenous and hungry after the new teeth are in place. Chixulub and a few others know a whole lot more about all the different varieties of the ATF species than I do. I'm just going off memory of when I kept them ,starting in the early 1990's. Hopefully that answers your question and helped you some. Maybe some of the others will post a response also...Thanks.

Just saw that there were posts before mine...Did I mention that I really dislike the new website layout???

Tsk a lots! i will try to put somethings keep him away from damge his mouth, and in the replacement teeth process do they eat anthings ? My tiger still eat like nothing happen.

They will still eat....just not as readily. Also, maybe the teeth are back in and you just haven't noticed. A lot depends on the condition of the ATF when you get it home. Sometimes they haven't eaten anything for a month or more during shipping to keep fecal matter and/or regurgitation to a minimum in the shipping process. Yours is very hungry possibly, if it's eating during the tooth replacement/cutting process.

P.S. If you took the picture of the ATF yawning in your first/original post, it's a REALLY nice photo. Make sure to save it.

Zeke I'm sorry you don't like the new software buddy. I'll help you with it if you need it.

Correct, it is normal for them to not want to eat while cutting teeth.

BTW my english is not very good....
