There is ammonia readings on my tap water, even priming it still puts my tank in cycle mode all over again.
Perhaps your filtration isn't enough to carry the amount of fish waste. What type of canister and media are you using? If you clean the canister make sure you use tank water and not water from your tap. Also, you can dose a higher rate of prime to help with the ammonia. But, seems like it's gone down (per your readings). Just keep doing daily w/c and get some salt on the way home. Adding salt and raising the temp may ease the stress on your ray. Her being a bit more active is good news, so keep doing what you're doing and I'm sure she'll come around.
^^^ plus if the tank is continuously cycling the constant water changes can just keep this happening. Try backing of on water changes a little. How long has it been since refusing food? I have seen rays go 4-5 weeks without feeding but not all can. More active is a good thing........
Its a 220 G 72Lx30Wx24H currently filtered by 1 x Eheim 2262 and 2 x SunSuns 402B's. SunSun's are packed with mechanical only and Eheim is packed with only Bio. For bio I use a coarse pad then 4" of biohome ultra then medium pad and 6 " of Eheim Substrate Pro. White/Blue pad followed by 1 gallon of Seachem Matrix topped off with 200 G rated Chemi Pure elite.
My stock is 2 x Spotted Gars / 1 x Dabola Bichir / 1 x Golden Clown knife and 1 x Flag tail. I'm not over stocked and I only feed once every other day.
Seems like when I go a week without water changes my water gets insanely crystal clear. I mean a mirror, but I try keep it by the book and continue to do water changes 2 times a week 20% each time, then water gets cloudy again. she hasn't eaten since I got her, 3 days ago, today is the 4th day. She was acting active but in a crazy way. wouldn't stop swimming... then would just kinda let the circulation pumps take her where ever the current was going, kinda like floating around. Still not eating
I just got home and the ray is doing worse, her entire disk corners are flaking and white as if the ammonia burn is eating her flesh . I did a very good test on everything just now and here are my readings, please help me out on this :
PS : She actually died, when i turn the lights on i realize that she was no longer breathing. Took her out and took some pictures of the poor thing. I can only blame myself for the disaster and hopefully this is a lesson for everyone who wants to get a freshwater ray. Just because you love the look of the fish and want it in your tank, please make sure you understand what you're buying and the requirements this beautiful fish needs. Not even about the money wasted, just kind of upsetting letting such a gorgeous creature die like that , and all my fault. Still need help with my water please, would hate to lose any more.
Water in tank Readings : PH - 6.0 , Ammonia - 2.0 , Nitrate - 0 , Nitrite - 0
Tap Water Readings : PH - 7.0 , Ammonia - 2.0 , Nitrate - 0.5 , Nitrite , 0
55 G brute 24hr Aged Water ( No chemicals added ) : PH - 7.0 - Ammonia - 0.5 , Nitrate - 0 , Nitrite - 0
I would do a huge water change but i only have 55 Gallons to refill it with, the rest would be straight from tap water... don't want to do that. Seems like the 55 G water changes ive been doing twice a week doesn't affect the high ammonia, just blends in with it. Help asap plz, Ty

Sorry to hear of your loss! Why do you age you water? Your ph out of tap and aged are there same. I dont see any problems with going straight tap as long as you dechlor as your filling.
takes away ammonia without any chemicals added. That's the whole purpose of aging water . ;/
2.0 ammonia is a big issue and even worse coming out of the tap- i would call your water company
Not sure if aging removes ammonia but it does eliminate the use of chemicals to remove chlorine and chlorimine.
Sorry to hear you lost the motoro. If it was only in your system for 4 days then it is quite common for rays to not feed for a few days or longer. Have seen them go on strike and not eat for 7-10 days or more.
Either your filtration was unable to handle the added waste or you have a water issue. If your water has ammonia right out of tap it may be beneficial to treat the tap water before use.
