Anyone that compares a 20 cent tank bred ornamental fish from Singapore, to their life, or someone elses, needs to grow up, or seek medical advice.


According to the AVA in Singapore, in 2013 Singapore shipped 56 million dollars worth of ornamental fish to the USA. That's an awful lot of mollies, guppies, and goldfish - and that's just what was imported via Singapore.

So is that 20 cent guppie worth the same as a human life? Seriously .......


All of this is stupid & hypothetical, because short of a serial killer/rapist, you get where I'm going with this, no person in their right mind would choose any fish, over a human life, ever.

When my gf is upset about something the dogs gather around and cuddle with her. My dogs are not cuddle bugs. But they know when she is sad it time to cuddle and will make her feel better. How am I supposed to believe that that kind of life is just replaceable or less important than the next life?
You know the best part of my day is getting home and having my dogs rush me and having my hundred pound Rottweiler almost knocked me over and having my Pomeranian just jump all over me. it is awesome to always be loved.
My girlfriend loves having extra money because that means she can buy more toys for the dogs to destroy.
And to be honest with you guys I take everything that you said incredibly personal. I never once said that I would kill your love ones to save mine. Because I would never say something like that about the people that you love. Oh but because they're just my stupid dogs it's ok for you guys to say that you have no issue killing mine save yours.

cmon dude. we should be able to discuss hypothetical situations and understand what contents should be taken literally and what shouldn't

no one's referring to your pets or animals as "just stupid animals"

i just can't agree with the idea of choosing an animal life over a human life. if i can only save one, i'd save the human. if trying to save both meant certain doom for all 3 of us, i'd save the human. there's just no debating that in my mind. i couldn't save the animal and look and the faces of the human's family and tell them i had to save my animal. can't do it, just can't

i would hope that's the case. but we know there are people who don't see it that way. and honestly, i find it disturbing

Sorry, I don't believe for one second that anyone posting in this discussion would give their life for one of their pet fish. Total BS, and total hypocrites.

Ehh i dont know where your getting that anyone would kill your dogs to save theirs...the exampple was to save a child weather it be our kids or a total strangers.

I know how you feel about your dogs, felt the same way about my english bull...but im sorry the feeling of seeing your kids at the end of the day is a none comparison. Amplify it by a million.

To each his own but dont falt me for choosing a child over an animal. Yes i have no issue saying that a childs life is a million times more valuable than ANY animal.

After reading through this thread from the last time I posted I really just have one comment to make about it. I see a few people here would pick pet life over human life. I'm schocked to hear that people would pick pet life over human life or say they would and I'll leave those people with the question of whats if you were the stranger in the situation and someone had to pick your life or their pets and they pick the pets. Would you agree with their choice?

That wasn't my first post in the thread. you just happened to say something really selfish, worth being called out for. Same as kittie cold heartedly saying she wouldn't stop a man from kicking the head of her sister in. You guys control the impression you give off to readers of your posts. You're a bright educated man but some things you say are baffling. How can you stand in the middle of the busiest section of a fish trade site and say the pet trade should end and expect a warm and fuzzy reception.

animals' lives are not equal to that of humans'

I would not give up my life or any human being's life for an animal's

animal testing must go on

and if ever my child is hanging off a cliff, and someone's pet is hanging off the same cliff, and the owner of that pet can only save one of them and then choose to save their pet over my child. I will then proceed to throw their pet off that same cliff and then the pet owner can join them after seeing what I just did to their pet

I have no respect for PETA. While I can understand the design behind PETA, their actions screw it up. I also have no intention of giving up my steaks or bacon.

With all that said though, I don't believe it's ok to torture animals.

I agree that peta are crazy, and not just "don't eat animals" crazy, proper actual crazy!!! Their complete nut jobs! However I don't see why animals shouldn't be our equals to a point - if it was only born to be eaten I don't see the problem with eating it, steak is my favorite food for Pete's sake. However why shouldn't our PETS have the same rights we do? If someone walks up and hits your kid, they can go to jail, why shouldn't this apply to cats, dogs etc? If someone tortures a person they get thrown in prison for life, why shouldn't the same laws be in place for people who torture animals? And in areas where there is laws to punish animal cruelty, why aren't the criminals punished to the same extent? It only seems fair to me..

Just my opinion.

honestly I love animals but they should not be treated the same as a human. they are not human. if we treat them like a human that means if a cat kills a bird it needs to go to jail for murder. why would that make sense? if a dog attacks another dog it serves 4 years?? if i swat a mosquito i get a murder sentence? it doesn't make sense. obviously I feel animals should be respected, but I don't see the people of PETA taking down their houses to sleep on the ground so animal habitats can come back. if you treat one thing as equal you need to treat everything as equal. abusing animals is wrong but so is treating them as if they are human. people need to undestand what are own limitations are, we can make are own choices
