its like clock work for those 2, divider will need to go in soon, 3 days of lovey dovey then back to the wife beating.
 
they been a spawning pair for over 2 years, nothing changes. both wild caught so typical behavior for them .
 
in the wild, male wants to get it and get, more fish in the sea persay, this not possible in the tank,

How long is the divider in until you remove it, how do you know when to remove it?
 
few years back had 2 female jags in there own tank, and i would bounce him back and forth. my wife named him horn dog for this.
 
ussuely around 3 weeks, female decides when I take it down. she will start hanging around the divider next to the male and cleaning the rock of love.

I can not say it does. cichlids live to eat, stake territory and breed. the nesting is instinctual wither a mate present or not.
