Do I Have Ich or Velvet?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yup, I picked up some carbon along with the med just to be safe. What are some signs they might show with bad reaction to the med?
franctic swimming (not the general loach craziness), banging into walls, severe flashing, heavy breathing.

I've had bottom dwelling fish try to jump out too when the meds I was using irritated them. You'll know as soon as it starts happening if they react poorly.

By all means, I hope RD does jump on. I'm not adding anything to the tank until this post rides awhile and I get some feedback. This spots weren't visible on any of the fish 2 days ago so this is a curve ball to everything. Just hope the over $400 worth of fish in there pull through

Ugh, well my 8" loach has been heavy breathing for days and flashing pretty hard.

well those are also ich symptoms if its in their gills, which is where I'm guessing it started in your case since the fish were flashing and now have the stereotypical salt spec-sized dots on them.

Wondering if the original ich med has been bothering him. Chick who owns one of the lfs's who has been doing this a LONG time said to stop that ich med I was giving as it's very harsh. She's the one who recommended the quick start

Aquanero Aquanero any other possible remedies I may not have thought of?

also a possibility. anything formaline/malachite green based is going to be rough on those fish.

Well crap
don't panic, I know theres a lot of money swimming in that tank, but ich is the easiest infection in the world to treat. I've treated just about every type of fish I've ever owned for ich at one point or another. That includes clown loaches and eels. just keep doing what your doing, keep on the water changes between doses of meds and make sure to give the substrate a good vaccing every time you do a wc.

Well you think I should just try to ride this out with heat and salt til I get the kanaplex and paraguard? I hate doing it but don't want to kill them by trying to save.
