For our 300 gallon South American community tank, I use a Lifegard Aquatics Quiet One Pro Series 5000 submersible pump attached to 1" flexible tubing that drains into a utility sink in the basement which is about 30 feet away. For our 600 gallon Fly River turtle tank, I use an Ultima II 1000 filter powered by a Reeflo Barracuda/Hammerhead Gold pump (gated down via double union ball valve) and either backflush the filter or bypass it. I fill both tanks via a Python.

I used to do massive water changes on our 65 gallon, 150 gallon and 200 gallon aquariums once a week by filling up a 150 gal rubbermade storage tank in our family room with the garden hose then after after adding water conditioner I would use 2 pumps to move the water, see link below. One pumped the stock tank water to the aquarium and another pumped the aquarium water to the toilet or outside. I did this because koi are very dirty, I hate algae/murky water and I lost patience for the slow python setup and all the water it was wasting. I was easily able to do a water change of 150 gallons in each tank in less than 30 minutes without ever lowering the water level in the tank or stressing my fish.

I no longer have the 65 gallon and 150 gallon and I made a drip drain system for my 200 gallon aquarium so I no longer do this.

My 7yr old doing chores. Python ran to a drain in the floor. It's slow but the kitchen mats in the pool collect alot of debris, and just move from hole to hole. My python has a quick connect to make half the size for my planted tank upstairs, where I just through the end out the window into the flower bed.

My utility room with RO/DI and 55g reservoir. I always think about getting a pump so I don't have to carry buckets, but then I'd miss my exercise. To refill the pool I use a garden hose at the faucet and pondsafe With 25% RO water.

I use a python (aqueon version) on my 180. The tank is in a wall with the backside being my laundry room. I just gravity drain to the sink and then top off with the python. I'm probably going to hook up a continuous drip over Christmas to New Years work lull.

.Eight years after I posted on the thread, the system still works. Here's the old video of adding water to the tank.

The system has worked so well, that we just tweaked things when building our new fish room to make things even more convenient. New equipment room is plumbed with hot and cold water lines to the main tank and to the sump tank so we will be able fill both the tank and the sump simultaneously if we want. We will be eliminating the holding tank. There are two 3" floor drains that the Ultimas will purge into. We will also be able to drain the main tank via the mechanical filtration.

When I open the red valve below, water that normally flows to my sump, is diverted to the garden.

When it is closed, water from tanks starts to recirculate again, and I send water from the tap to 1, 2, or up to 4 tanks at once.
I can do a 300 gal water change in about 10 minutes.

I use the bucket tap to test for appropriate temp, because in winter tap water temp can drop into the upper 30sF, and I mix with warm.
In winter instead of the garden, old water is sent to the drain.
