Buy tank then fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes we should inform the person first that the tank is over stocked/to small and then try educate him/her in to responsible stocking, if after that they don't listen then I see no wrong in getting on your high horse. Animal rights are focusing on our hobby,, better to self police than have ridiculous rules thrust apon us

If animal rights are looking into fish keeping then we are doomed. Period. End of story. It's proven without a doubt in history that people in power make rash decisions for the "benefit of all." We still can't have Asian Aro's because they're endangered. Hmmm.... Last I checked the market was doing good where they are available. Anyone know when they plan to double check their stats? Probably never because anyone that is interested in them talks a mean game from a keyboard but falls on their face in front of an audience. If all you flamers just jump on a thread and say get a bigger tank, your doing it wrong, you're adding fuel to the fire and the case to take your pets away. By all means keep being one line wonders. When you're turning over all your prized possessions to fish and wildlife because you just couldn't keep your $.02 to yourself, don't cry to anyone but the man in the mirror while petting your high horse. None of us are going to change the cycle of bad fish keeping. It has to start at the seller, not with a few pumped up thread trolls.

I can't believe you all fell for that.

I'd say the average aquarium for average people is a 55g. When I tell people I have a 75g, 100g, and a few 125g, I might as well have said I keep small children hidden in the basement. Some of the looks I get are insane. The comments are even worse. "I bet you're single." Is my favorite to date. I then showed the lady my wife and kids swimming in the pond I had in the garage in the middle of winter! HA!
Fish keeping is kept alive by the people who don't know any better. If their wasn't hundreds of people buying RTCs every month none of us would be able to buy them for $20. If people didn't buy the wrong fish compatibility wise we couldn't get awesome deals on used gear. If people didn't overstock their tanks we would never be able to say "That's over stocked man. You need a XXX to keep those in!" I lost huge respect for this forum and it's members when I got on here looking for advice and the only response I could get out of anyone was that I needed a bigger tank. Go fly a kite... during a hurricane! Answer the questions they're asking and then let them weigh their options. If they don't listen WHO CARES!!! It's not your wasted investment. It's not your community tank that gets eaten. It's not your tank that gets the glass blown out or gear destroyed. I get that you folks are passionate about your fish, but you don't need to be passionate about every person that gets on here and has an Oscar in a 10g. Answer their questions, make it known the recommended size of aquarium the species will one day require. Don't however get on your passion horse and just say that they need a bigger set up. Every single one of you that replies to a thread simply to say "Your tank is too small." are expletives. Yes plural. You all need to sit back and remember that once upon a time you where all stupid too. No one, I do mean no one, is not guilty of an impulse buy or a mislabeled purchase that ended up being outside your means. Yes even you shaking your head with that excrement eating little grin on your face. We are supposed to be a knowledge base for people taking a stab at the hobby, not the "You're doing it all wrong brigade." Just my $1.00 on the subject. Let the flaming commence!

No flaming here, you're opinion and your entitled to it.

But you didnt mention how most of those threads you mentioned are worded usually aounds something like this.... "so i have a X tank, will a X,X,X,X work ?"

I mean what are people supposed to do lie and say "yeah go ahead deal with the inuries, health issues and stress of rehoming fish its tons of fun"

Yeah sure sometimes people get nuts with the stocking opinions but i feel like the intensions are mostly good.

How does telling someone they need a bigger tank add fuel to the fire ? Hahaha if anything it would hurt anyone case to "take our pets away" mhhh lets take their fish away because they are providing sufficient sized tanks.

We have no control over if they take our advice or not. Just give them honest and accurate advice and not have 20 members say the same thing over and over. You can only give your best and hope for the best. At the end of the day stupid is as stupid does. If a guy has a 55g with an 12" RTC. Oh well! If a guy has a tank full of guppies but wants to keep a wolf. Have at it buddy!

Because telling someone they need a bigger tank, and them having or acquiring said tank are two different things. How many times have we seen an RTC in 125g???

LOL!

If the tank is to small, going to say the tank is to small, keep in mind the fish or stocking is never to large, the tank is to small, I really try not to come across as crass or arrogant. and ussualy state that I am not trying to offend, just trying to help them keep healthy fish.
