Apple vs The FBI

Not quite sure whether they're facts or spews from media circuit

If i remember correctly the media and the white house went to great lengths to say it was work place violence.

The fbi agent in charge as well as the sheriff called it for what it was ....terrorism.

Amazes me why some shy away from calling this terrorism. Is it somehow considered racist?

None of us was there when it happened of course, but in light of previous similar events I think I will go with the newsmedia's accounts on this one

WOW... there's a lot to unpack in these past few days. I'll try address things separately for clarity's sake:

MaddMaxx MaddMaxx No court is going to make Apple create something that will damage their business. No Court and several legal minds have already stated that. Especially after any court that can look pass the fact that 2 Muslims are involved and not be bias because of it. The court if they follow the law and consider the facts that the FBI was totally negligent in how they handled the phone in the first place. But Again I don't think any court can make any company create something that will destroy a company. The iPhone is a big part of Apple. Also Tim Cook has also said there is no way that program would only work for that 1 phone.

This is true smitty, Apple would have to agree to do so, no court going to be able to make them.

Yeah, smitty03281964 smitty03281964 and pops pops I certainly HOPE the courts will do their job and will not force a US company to harm itself (and privacy rights around the world)... But as Pops alludes to, the bigger issue will be winning in the "Court of Public Opinion", which is where the FBI is trying to make its "only one phone" case. If Apple loses the public opinion battle (ie if enough people think Apple should give into the FBI and create a universal key) it could be just as damaging to their brand and force them to comply despite any actual real-world court ruling.

it is one phone.. apple should just do it for this one phone but not disclose how...... the FBI does need to know as much as it can to prevent another slaughter of people....makes me cringe when i remember how the people who were slain were the same people who gave them gifts for their shower.. i think it was baby shower..or maybe wedding... how evil

So while I think we disagree fundamentally Red Devil Red Devil I overwhelmingly agree that there are plenty of "other ways" that Apple could help the FBI get information off of the phone in question. The PROBLEM is, the FBI didn't ask for any of those other ways. They asked, very specifically, for Apple to create a UNIVERSAL KEY that could be used to unlock the phone in question (and oh-by-the-way we admittedly have a ton of other unrelated phones that we want to use this UNIVERSAL KEY for).

...so this begs the question: Why didn't (and still not) the FBI ask for a different kind of help; if their true motivation is access to "just one phone"?

i don't know...... but i do know that apple should have followed the judges orders just like anyone of us would have to do.... my opinion... and by the time they do unlock this phone i doubt it will be as much help to the FBI especially after so much public knowledge..

The why the FBI didn't ask for one of the other ways is because they really don't care about what is on the phone. They want the key and are trying to use public opinion and fear to get what they want.

If everybody believes so, then there would not be an appeal process in the legal system, Liz
