Jebao pump OWNERS apply within!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To be honest, I don't know lol. Need to research a bit. I want to have a spare pump regardless of brand, so I need to buy one anyway. And right or wrong, there's a part of me that cannot help but to be concerned that I have such an economical pump as the heart of my life support system for $1000-$1500 of fish...

Even great pumps fail eventually, I think redundancy will get you further than a direct upgrade. Plumb another return and pick up another 6k. Pick up 2 extra in case one dies, and now you'll be around the cost of your new pump. I'm not saying this is the best course of action, but it's the basket I've decided to put my eggs in.

I don't really have enough room in my sump for another pump.

I'm going to run two 12000s at a low setting. Hoping that will help them last longer.

I've only really had experience with mag drives otherwise. 9.5, 18 and 36. The 9.5 lasted a while. The 18s and 36s all lasted less than a year a piece. I had several of each of them. I was not happy... and of course, they were all loud as hell.

Not that i have allot to compare too but from what i can tell these dcts are really quite. My ac110's, and eheims make more noise

Just a quick update.

The DCT4000s are still kicking! The PC fan has kept the power supplies cool. It is actually too much fan as it is cooling the sumps as well. Noticed that the tank temps drop a few minutes faster and evaporation rate has gone up. Flow is great. They are whisper quite even at 100%. They do make a funny but normal noise on start up after using "feed" mode.

I cracked open one of the factory included power supplies, and looking at the layout of the components inside it will be easy to modify the case for some ventilation which is all I think these need. There are two big heat sinks inside that run almost the entire length of the box. Some properly placed vents, or some vents and a 40mm $2 case fan tied into the factory board and bam. Problem solved! That will be the next update as the 120mm PC fan gots to go. Lol. Here's some pics for those who don't care to go opening their power supplies just because.

nice idea. this thread is slowly becoming "Improving Jebao's life expectancy" thread.

Very true. Besides one member saying his pumps got fried along with his power supply, the power supply is the only issue. One member said he had one surge but was still operating. Have yet to hear back on that one. I theorized it was a faulty........ You guessed it! Power supply. There are others who said that their pumps failed but it was never verified if the pump itself died or the controller or power supply. Bugs me that a sub $20 part is killing this whole line up.

My power supply got VERY hot and luckily just burnt itself out instead of setting my apartment on fire. My power supply died after less than a year of use.

...given my experience and the many other examples of power supply failures, I would highly recommend purchasing a higher rated supply. I bought a $20 10A supply on eBay and it runs cool to the touch at 100% and it can even power a few pumps or DC powerheads.
