You guys get spring earlier too. Right now it's still 39°F where I live. SWPA also has virtually no Pike, at least in my area, so I have to wait until boat season starts and I can start chucking jerkbaits in Presque Isle Bay on Erie, As far as Musky, I've tried shore fishing the Allegheny River but I haven't even seen a fish in 4 outings.
Have you tried a med-heavy/heavy spinning set-up with a big Chub hooked through the lip casted way-out and let the bail open so it can swim freely and find the Musky FOR you?

Yup, I used a big Central Stoneroller instead since they're a more common species to find in the river but still no luck. Used a 9'0" heavy power spinning setup with 20 pound mono and a 45 pound test steel leader.

try lighter line then......there's several instance of dedicated Musky fishermen spending countless hours with the same set-up, then hooking Musky on rods barely suited for bass because it simply wanted something smaller and lighter line is harder to see

Went 3 for 5 on Trout today, plus had several more follows. All of the fish landed were Browns in the 14-16" range. Lost a small Rainbow plus a bigger fish I couldn't identify because it stayed deep. 4" jerkbaits were the ticket today, with purple being the popular color.

Jesus christ you fish for bows under a waterfall? Where on Gods green earth are you? Next thing you're going to tell me you never ever run into anyone else??

Nice bead setup. I went last weekend but river was blown out :(

Totally picturing those guys in my smoker right now.

I tend to give the winter steelhead I catch away, much better eating fish go in my smoker and freezer (spring chinook, coho, and summer steelhead). I've become a bit of a snob. With the winters so near spawning the flesh tends to be pale and soft.

The waterfall photo is off a nice little tributary with a hatchery out here that is only accessible by floating in inflatable crafts (rafts or catarafts) due to the technical class 3 and 4 water, so once we got below the hatchery "meat hole" with guys lined up shoulder to shoulder we saw I think 3-4 fisherman and went 7 for 9 if I remember right.

The bigger colored up buck photo was from yesterday and I can't say we didn't see anyone because we did see one guy walking out with a fly rod. We've got plenty of crowded water in the Northwest, but if you're willing to work for it you can get away from the crowds.

Now it's time to start thinking about spring chinook, the best eating Salmonid on the planet!

Truly magnificent fish, guys.....2 more weeks and we'll be out there too. A+ Sean, ....great that you guys can get trout all year and NOT have to rely on class-A stocked trout waters.............

Man, I wish I could head back out west again, those Steelies are beasts...I have a few custom-matched Flathead outfits that I'd like to put to the test on Steelies and Salmon one day

That first fish is a monster! Not that all of them aren't nice haha. Lake Erie has been terrible for Steelhead from October until now, it's nice to see they're still biting somewhere!

Ya that's awesome. I know 100% what you mean about working to get away from the crowds, and it is 100% true. Just a shame that the crowds are exponentially growing every year, really takes away from what I go out to fish for in the first place. Not that I don't like competition, it's a great feeling when you are the only one pulling out fish, but I really do prefer being out there completely by myself in nature. Best form of meditation in my eyes, and these fly by night guys without much for etiquette really do ruin that.
