Truly magnificent fish, guys.....2 more weeks and we'll be out there too. A+ Sean, ....great that you guys can get trout all year and NOT have to rely on class-A stocked trout waters.............

Man, I wish I could head back out west again, those Steelies are beasts...I have a few custom-matched Flathead outfits that I'd like to put to the test on Steelies and Salmon one day

Thanks! Although those fish were stocked, about three hours prior to me catching them actually LOL. There's not much wild trout fishing around Pgh, and you either have to drive 90 minutes south or four hours northeast to get in to the good Brookie waters, which is why I unfortunately only get to fish for natives up in Potter county two or three times each year.

Erie doesn't have anything close to what the Pacific Northwest does as far as Steelhead, but sometimes we'll get some good runs if you have a desire to catch some Chromers. We did really good trolling for them last year and even caught a 9 pounder, which is still dwarfed by Modest_Man's first fish! Hoping to break 10 pounds this year, and then 15 pounds if possible, but we'll see.

This was probably the best winter steelhead season since the mid 80's out here. Lots of fish everywhere, with fish returning in really good numbers early on in the season and just continuing to flood in. Our coho season in the fall was dismal, with one of the worst returns on record (projected return was ~900k, actual return was ~150k). The ocean conditions from this El Nino are messing with the fishes. At least we have snowpack this year so the chinook with have some water this spring. Last year several thousand perished when the water hit 81 degrees for several days in a row.

Speaking of Rainbow Trout, I just set my personal best for inland/landlocked Rainbows about an hour ago with an 18" tall, thick fish being pulled out of a deep run with a chartreuse jig on my three weight fly rod! Can't say I've ever caught a fish of any species that big on this particular creek so I'm glad I decided to head out tonight.

Aye, that's a nice 'Bow. They're such elegant fish....love the series of jumps when they dance across the water and the way they let you get them to shore only to make 5 or 6 more runs and peel out your drag. MAN, you shoulda seen the size of the stocky I got last May......It was pure LUCK I hooked that beast on the one rod of my 3 set-out that had an extra 6" in length to give me that added leverage fighting him. He had a big pointy face...starting to look like a Salmon. He was beast

I was worried I was going to lose it for a while, it kept rolling on the surface and my rod was already straight up in the air at that time! I'm glad I decided to bring my net yesterday, the thing just paid for itself in a period of a minute! How big was the fish you caught?

You know all approved stocked trout waters are closed in your region until April 16th right?

Nope, it's a delayed harvest section so it's open to fishing year round, same with my local lake, just no harvest :).

Slow day at the lake, the trout wanted nothing to do with my offerings, tonight anyway. Still managed a nice Bluegill, a Hybrid Sunfish (Green X Pumpkinseed), and a little Black Crappie.
