150 gal sump eshopps/jebao dct

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looking good but geez that sock contraption takes up so much room, you gonna be able to fit all your bio and the return pump in there?

Hahaha yeah that thing is ugly and big. The pump and bio fit though. Some of the bio will definitely sit on the bottom tray. Problem is the heater will probably have sit on the front or back panel instead of the bottom of the tank.

Looks good so far!

Thx dan

Good progress Jaws. RE: Sock Holder; I'm sure you know that they do have premade holders, but nothing wrong with coming up with your own design. You could get the made sock holder rings and attached both socks at the end of the sump. You could use plastic brackets or acrylic screws to attach to the holders. This would take up about half or less of the space.

Again, just another option for the future in you decide to change things up and/or need a bit more room.

Edit: If you have a plastics store in your area (like a TAPS), you could also easily make the holder with acrylic. They have rings and tubs (that they'll even cut) and you can make holders that way.

Yeah i have a cpr holder on the other sump. I was gonna use them again but wanted to try one of the diy methods Just to try.

Putting the socks on either end would have made more sense and given more room. I didnt even think of doing that on this build. Which is odd since im always looking at other members builds and thats how a good portion of them are set up.
All things i can put to use when we tackle the herbie lol

Almost done. Have all the plumbing glued except the last piece above the socks. Was able to us 45's except right at the end of the drain above the sock holder. Gonna wait a few days for the return that was painted black to cure before i test everything

How soon after gluing the pvc can it be used our tanks ?

Kind of need to know asap

Just a question you may have answered, do you have to heat the sump? or does the main tank heat everything?

Ernie the heater is in the sump.

Got her up and running. Not enough room for the yager in the little tank. You guys think its ok like that ?

Running on setting 3 which should be around 1200 to 1300gph

Made thw 45° cuts on the standpipes but am getting allot of noise from the overflowbox. Not a gurgle but more like water splashing. Thinking if i raise the stand pipes it will quiet it down.

Still have to make the lid and and adjust the direction of the return.

Oh yeah wife came in clutch again couldnt stay bent under the tank, my back/hip were screaming

In your photo I noticed you have the heater hanging on the side above the pump intake.
Just a precaution I learned the hard way, I always try to put the heater lower in the sump than the intake of the pump, just in case anything happens to siphon (usually suctioned right to the bottom panel).
That way water is always covering the heater, even in case of an accident.
Before I started drilling tanks, I had an overflow lose siphon, and of course the pump kept pumping. The tank overflowed, and beyond dealing with the major cleanup, the heater burned out because it was high and dry.
