I woke up to an excruciating cramp at the top of my calf, ..again...wtf
Hello; This happens to me from time to time, mostly following some change in my routine. In the last few weeks I have had to switch from riding a bicycle to walking for exercise. The first couple of weeks i had cramps in the back of my thigh upon comming awake. I would have to stand up right away to loosen the cramp. I have had them in my calf muscles in the past. A few weeks into my new routine my leg and thigh muscles tense upon comming awake, but now no more cramps.
Cramps in muscles have followed an injury which has forced me to move in some new way for a while.
Hydration and salt may have something to do with cramps as we are entering the hot season.

agree with that, except the salt part, unless you are eating a very low salt diet, as a whole we get allot more salt in our diets than we need. potassium not so much.

Holy cow these hurt, I've been meaning to get to a doctor, I've been having issues, not sure if the cramps are related, I would think so as they're new to me.

Try putting a heating pad on it. But i would def talk to a dr since your having other issues

I'm a big fan of foam rolling for stretching. I'd also look to your diet as well as activities that could be triggering the cramps.

Hello; My age is showing. Back in high school (1960's) the coaches gave us salt tablets on very hot days. They also would not let us drink untill after practice. Most every day some one puked.
I am restricting my salt intake. I do not put salt on anything anymore.
Good call on the banannas.

F FMA4ME they sell a hand roller has two handles on each end i roll my legs with it constantly.... might help

Hello; When I was having the calf cramps, it was usually in bed. One thing I was able to do was sleep further down in the bed so that my feet can touch the foot board. That way when a calf cramp hit I could push my toes against the solid foot board to relieve the cramp. This was quicker than getting out of bed and standing up. The extra seconds can make a difference on how hard the muscles knot up. I sometimes had to get out of bed to fully ease the cramp anyway. I was fully awake at that point regardless.

Did'nt we call them a charley horse?

Thanks for the tip. Not having them before I wasn't sure what to do, so the first one was really bad. Then I figured out how to relax it a bit more. I've thought about doing what you said with my foot against the head board earlier, but I thought that would more likely trigger a cramp?
