Alligator drags Toddler in water at Disney Resort

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Signs should have had warning of no wading or swimming may be Alligator in the area. Also resort brochure should also state the Alligator warning in them. Disney imo is focused on how much money they can pull in from tourist that now they will pay for greed. Safety should always be first!

The thing about these super predators (gators/crocs) is that they often attack wary preys that are fully on land and just have their snout in the water just enough to lap a drink. A small, clueless child, even in an inch of water, stands no chance of ever seeing this deadly ambush.

kid was in less than a foot of water

I believe the signs only said no swimming. I think this being at Disneyworld, they should not have sugar coated it and plainly stated on the sign that there were possible alligators. There are so many signs at amusement parks that say do not enter and no touching, the parents probably thought nothing of it at the time.

Knowing how many children from all over the world attend this park, who speak different languages, disney probably should have had an image of an alligator on that sign (kids can't read also), if they were not willing to completley purge the area from the monsters and fence it off anyway.

We all know that disney can afford safety. After all, it should have come first anyway, and its a childrens park for crying out loud...

Just my 2 cents.

I feel like this is all on disney. No swimming could mean no swimming: no life gaurd on duty doesnt mean beware of allogators. Just heard on the radio that the kid was in less than a foot of water and the father was close by. He was close enough to sustain injuries while trying to save the baby. I agrer with tlindsey, disney probably didnt want to scare off tourists. I really think this could happen regsrdless of how good a parent you are.

This kid dodnt even have to be in the water for the gator to get em.

Yeah you definitely changed my view with the gorilla one. Man can you imagine watching this happen to even a strangers kid ? Must be a real heartbreak that he was found so close to shore. I would be killing myself with the what if's had i been in their shoes

There was eyewitness testimony from a guy who watched it happen from his balcony, I'd have been over that railing and on the beach after that gator.

Too bad, parents shouldn't have disregarded the signs. Maybe they should be subject to charges.
I agree with this 100%. It wasn't the gator's fault, it was irresponsible, incompetent parenting. This is the type of stuff that's making our country go down the tubes.

I should run for President and make it a law to have a license to procreate

While I feel for what that kids parents must be going through, I think this is one of many examples for why we should need licenses to breed. What do you expect to happen if your kid is playing in an "alligator pond"? Sorry if that offends anyone, I don't mean it in a nasty way, I mean it in a "this could/should have been avoided" kind of way.

And not to take away from the tragedy here, but either that camera is super zoomed in, or you Americans are nut balls crazy! Be damned if I'd get that close to one of them bad boys...

You ROCK, Katt.....I feel bad for the child, but how can I feel bad for the parents when they basically gave thier own flesh and blood a death sentence.

lol politics and blame-mongering.

only people to blame are the parents themselves. Just because you have children doesn't give you the right to be called "parents". You have to prove yourself 1st.

Seriously, a big crowd, a body of water, as a parent shouldn't you be on super high alert? Nope, now you get public support and a check!? You needed a sign with a friggin alligator on it!? geez..smh

Not ONLY did they basically kill their own kid, but NOW they are going to get a large sum of money for it????!!! REALLYYYYYY??????

Let's just fence off all the bodies of water where any possible predatory animals COULD live and the entire Ocean as well.

It's called common sense. Parents need to BE parents. This is not a situation where everyone else is to blame. You made kids, now do your damn job and watch them.

I also agree they should be brought up on charges. As well as fined for breaking the rules. No Swimming means no swimming, who cares how you interpret it. It's TWO WORDS. Was the entire family Autistic or something??? I don't understand why this is so complicated. They screwed up......all they had to do was follow the rules. Swimming, wading, whatever it be. Stay OUT of the water, obviously.

You don't take a vacation someplace without educating yourself on the possible dangers and hazards. When my cousin and her fiancé went to the Bahamas last year to celebrate their engagement, I spent over an HOUR educating them about Tiger and Bull sharks.

People need to learn to take accountability for their own actions, and responsibility for themselves

Would you plan a trip to Africa to hunt Lions and sue Africa if you got attacked by one?
