Alligator drags Toddler in water at Disney Resort

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
While I feel for what that kids parents must be going through, I think this is one of many examples for why we should need licenses to breed. What do you expect to happen if your kid is playing in an "alligator pond"? Sorry if that offends anyone, I don't mean it in a nasty way, I mean it in a "this could/should have been avoided" kind of way.

Don't bother using chain-linked fencing

Alligators/crocs don't always eat their kill immediately. Sometimes they stash it away for later on
And not to take away from the tragedy here, but either that camera is super zoomed in, or you Americans are nut balls crazy! Be damned if I'd get that close to one of them bad boys...

I have not read the story completely but I am hearing that the family was watching an evening outdoor movie of some kind and the child wandered off and waded into the water....people just can not allow themselves to get distracted from their children and caught up in whatever is going on around them. This is so sad.

I think sad is an understatement. What if that kid had of grown up to find a cure for cancer? For all we know that child could have grown up and started us on our way to world peace. I think that's the saddest part about losing kids, they have so much potential to make a difference to the world, and that all gets taken in an instant.. :(

I wonder how much liability can the property owner really be responsible for, kind of like someone being attacked by a shark at a beach front property rental, granted the canal falls on private property and the ocean would fall under state . I'm sure they'll just settle out of court for a trillion and call it good.

I highly doubt that an owner of a piece of beachfront property could be held liable for a shark attack. The property lines on ground might be gated off but there is no boundaries in the water to keep out any types of fish....but then I guess some lawyer could probably come up with something lol.

We actually had a rash of shark attacks years ago in one area call Olowalu and sure enough the state erected shark warning signs and shark attacks have occurred signs in attempt to shield themselves from liability. I think legally it comes down to "foreseeable danger" and in this case(the Disney attack) most would agree there was foreseeable danger. Of course the parents hold a lot of the responsibility too.

I didn't know that.
It is interesting and might be some type of survival instinct in which a gator can rely on it's underwater stash if it can't catch enough fresh food to eat.

A while back we visited the big island and went om some beach tour. Almoay every beach we stopped at had these huge red amd white signs with a picture of a shark and no swimming. Iwas amazed that they could cover that much beach front and tell wether sharks were present or not.

I coulnt imagine what the parents are going through

My theory.... Salt water = shark is present

Second theory... Fresh water in Florida = alligator is present

I don't need no signs to tell me either of these.

Seriously though, my heart goes out to these parents. My youngest is like a ninja and can evade the keenest eye kept on him in an instant. Kids can wander off in a blink of an eye. (Good or bad parenting) I don't know the details of this instance but I can't imagine having this happen.

Back to my theories.. Third is don't go in ANY water in Florida! Fresh or salt. Sorry Florida folks.. I love my polluted Lake Erie!
