Signs should have had warning of no wading or swimming may be Alligator in the area. Also resort brochure should also state the Alligator warning in them. Disney imo is focused on how much money they can pull in from tourist that now they will pay for greed. Safety should always be first!
The thing about these super predators (gators/crocs) is that they often attack wary preys that are fully on land and just have their snout in the water just enough to lap a drink. A small, clueless child, even in an inch of water, stands no chance of ever seeing this deadly ambush.
kid was in less than a foot of water
I believe the signs only said no swimming. I think this being at Disneyworld, they should not have sugar coated it and plainly stated on the sign that there were possible alligators. There are so many signs at amusement parks that say do not enter and no touching, the parents probably thought nothing of it at the time.
Knowing how many children from all over the world attend this park, who speak different languages, disney probably should have had an image of an alligator on that sign (kids can't read also), if they were not willing to completley purge the area from the monsters and fence it off anyway.
We all know that disney can afford safety. After all, it should have come first anyway, and its a childrens park for crying out loud...
Just my 2 cents.
I feel like this is all on disney. No swimming could mean no swimming: no life gaurd on duty doesnt mean beware of allogators. Just heard on the radio that the kid was in less than a foot of water and the father was close by. He was close enough to sustain injuries while trying to save the baby. I agrer with tlindsey, disney probably didnt want to scare off tourists. I really think this could happen regsrdless of how good a parent you are.
This kid dodnt even have to be in the water for the gator to get em.
