Mystery fish on my cichlid order who can identify ??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That might have been an exception. Mine was 13" at 6 years old. I think they average about 12-14"?
I'm saying at least 6 years old because that's how long ago I first went and saw them. Can be much older not sure at that time I didn't care for vieja too much I was just looking at the Midas in the tank lol

Whatever the case maybe it's going to hit a foot at least.

17"?? They get big... But no where near that unless exposed to gamma rays.

I agree that is not a normal size. Even it it is 17", it would be a freak occurrence. You won't ever see them that big in a home aquarium.

Ive read through people's threads and many claim 13-15" so when the guy said 17" I believed it.

What a fish looks inside a tank is much different than actually measuring it.

I should've never mentioned size because we can go back and forth.

Let's agree that most will get to 12" lol I'm not saying all of them do I was merely saying that it's not an African fish it will get monster size

I believe it. I also heard of a 2 ft Blackbelt is more unbelieveable but it was also true. i believe it because most of us don't keep our fish like that.
17" tip to tip it's not that crazy. It is possible

Yes, definitely over 12" lol. My male is about 13". Fast growing to a point, but like most cichlids once they hit a certain size, growth slows a lot. But a fish really has to be older than 6 years old to grow above the average size.

2 foot BB? I'll believe it with actual pics. I've been keeping cichlids for over 30 years now and never heard or seen one.

People used to always call bs on me when I had a Midas that was with me for 8 years and was Aprox 12" when I got him.

He was 15.5" from tip to tip. Everyone said they never can get that big . In 8 years it grew 3.5"

For those who still don't believe Midas can get that big watch this video. Again this is in the shed aquarium located in Chicago.

This is a 18" one

These black belts are usually around 9' long!

But seriously... A 2' black belt? I don't believe it.
