Tankmates for a green terror?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
All depends on tank size and how it's furnished.
I kept 1 male and 5 females in 7 foot with various tank mates with no issues.

Interesting. I read the horror stories of keeping more than one in a tank (or a breeding pair only) and thats all. Would love to build an 82x36x30 plywood (max room i could use), but im quite sure id need to brace the floor for it. Thats gonna require a good bit of persuading to my landlord for that. (prayer chains welcomed hahaha) however, im limited to the 150T as a max size/weight limit.
Figuring out now what id put in with it will directly effect the decor.
I think i might just go with the GT, pictus, L200 scenario. I love all these fish and all will go well together. Dithers can wait until the 150 is cycled.
Thinking on 6 pictus right now, moving 3 to the 150 and leaving 3 for the EBJD. Add l200's after the tanks establish themselves. Does this sound like a solid plan?

Sounds like a good plan for the 150. Should be a sweet setup. I agree with Darren, give the GT some lady friends. :p You will have plenty of bio load to spare in that tank.

EBJD is a Central American fish, I personally wouldn't put South American cats in with it. Also, would be a bit much having pictus in two tanks, don't you think? Unless you really love the things, I'd prefer more variety. Some of the larger CA live bearers would be a good choice.

I am going to be looking more into the "lady friends" idea. GT is new to me and u only ever hear the aggesive stories. Surely these fish can breed or they wouldnt exist. Lol.
Learning a new thing is only a good thing.
Research and help from those on MFK are a huge help, thank you all.
3-4 pictus in 1 tank was the origional plan and i think ill stay with it and after the move ill look for some ladies for him also.
That leaves me free to set up the ebjd tank any way appropriate for him as well.

I have a green terror in a 55 gallon by himself. What would make suitable tankmates for him? I bought some tinfoil barbs, which he doesn't seem to mind. But I think I'll take them back, since they probably will outgrow the tank. Any ideas for mates for a GT?
I was also wondering the same thing I have a 65 gallon aquarium that I’m planning on getting a jevenile green terror for but I’m not sure what else to put in there, maybe a jack Dempsey or even a female green terror and suggestions?

In a 65 gallon adding more cichlids could lead to territorial disputes.
You could try a pair of gt's. They may get on they may not.
I would suggest adding non cichlid tank mates.
Hoplo cats,Brochis splendens and Pimelodus blochii worked very well as tank mates for my green terrors.
