Cichlid for 65G...ideas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A bocourti would outgrow a 65 in less than a year, and would need to be upgraded to an over 200 gal tank, and would eat every plant in it. They easily reach 15", and mine ate java fern, anubis and even 3ft papyrus plants roots and all. I figured papyrus might be safe, because is like eating cardboard, they demolished the one below.

mine went from 2" juvies to 7" in about8 months, and still weren't mature

I would pull dandelions from the yard to keep up with their plant jones

5 minutes later
all I have to say is WOW........just wow

The aequidens genus has a lot of fish in the 5 to 7 inch range that may be worth looking into.
Personally I likes aequidens metea. There are plenty more worth looking at though.
Portalegrensis
Patricki
Tetramerus
Diadema

Some of those names may be spelt a little wrong from memory but should be something like.

they moved portalgrensis out of Cichlasoma?

I always knew them as port acara,I've heard them called brown acara too.

I still hear the term "port acara" perhaps folks around here are old school.

How many EB acara do you guys think I could do?

Think I would be tempted at the harem approach with 1 male 3 females and see how they get on.
I personally would not choose the electric blue morph, but that's just me.
I Think they would be an interesting group to keep though and the right size and temperament too.

I had a herem about a year ago 1 male 4 females....they dropped dead one by one despite all other fish in the tank remaining in perfect health with stable water conditions. I also treat all fish for intestinal parasites in QT. They are beautiful fish but I am apprehensive and believe they are just weak. I would however like to keep them again....
