Updates from the 300

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I really have no words to describe how ridiculous this fish looks like in person. I do have a friend locally who has wanted him.... but he has never seen it like this. I am tempted to pull the fish out and put it in the hospital tank and let it slim down and then rehome it.
Give it epsom salt. Should be fine.

The teugelsi is still a tub after four day of no tilapia. This is why I hate captive born fish! Had to update the pic to show how bloated and fat it still is. So should the other fish suffer and not be fed because this one has an eating disorder?

Here is another picture of the teugelsi... lol

So Im due to feed the other polys... been days since the last tilapia feeding. I wonder if the teugelsi would eat itself to death?

It can barely move and looks like it is ready to pop. All the other polys look normal. While some are 'large' or 'thick' in nature, none of the others have ever looked like that.

The teugelsi was pretty nice looking when it was younger

Like many captive born endli and delhezi when they grow up they start to look wrong, this teugelsi looks wrong now.

Even if it bursts open?

I am going to feed the fish tonight. I am not making any special concessions or arrangements for this fish. Will see what happens. In the past I had fed the fish and of course it overate, then it would barf up the meal so that it could eat the new food. Anything wrong here? Maybe it is the hormones or whatever they do to get the fish to breed in captivity. But they are just messed up.

DMD- This thread of yours is hitting 9,313 views. That's a lot! Let's hit 10k in a few days guys.

Ya, as some of us keepers have experienced. Many cb sengals, delhezi, and teugelsi will be oddly chubby. Especially, when they're inhabitants are with other larger LJ. The feedings are a challenge when growout lower jaws to become beasts. It can happen to have a teug who eats conservatively. Here's a pic of my old one at 14". Which I regret moving.

This may be bold for me to say, but I don't think having a CB senegal, teug, or DELHEZI cosmetically (not fat) works well in a set up with lower jaws over 15". If you've been doing this long term. Then you're the minority and got great captive bred. I say this only due to the pellets and tilapia volume needed to sustain lower jaws appetite. Let's face it, we give lj more than they need with a goal to hit monstrous sizes cuz it's rewarding. If u guys got a cb uj thats 'healthy looking' with monster lj. Show a pic here if DMD doesn't mind. Educational stuff here. Agree?
