Updates from the 300

This may be bold for me to say, but I don't think having a CB senegal, teug, or DELHEZI cosmetically (not fat) works well in a set up with lower jaws over 15". If you've been doing this long term. Then you're the minority and got great captive bred. I say this only due to the pellets and tilapia volume needed to sustain lower jaws appetite. Let's face it, we give lj more than they need with a goal to hit monstrous sizes cuz it's rewarding. If u guys got a cb uj thats 'healthy looking' with monster lj. Show a pic here if DMD doesn't mind. Educational stuff here. Agree?
I have to agree that from a dietary need point of view the majority of upper jaw really have no place with lower jaw and then throw captive born in there and it can get to the situation Im facing. I rehomed all the smaller lowerjaws before my uppers came along. But out of them I bet my cb delhezi would have ended up like my teugelsi. My gold dust and palmas palmas were wild caught and didnt really get too thick or fat looking.

No problems posting your mixed poly pics. Would love to see a nice looking captive bred upper jaw with lowers.

Vancouver_98683 Vancouver_98683 , now that is a good looking teugelsi.

A wc teugelsi is on the wishlist but so is a pbb... thinking its time to rehome and replace my captive fatty
how big is she? in length, not in girth. ;)

Sooo we going to see a new poly?:) time for shopping:D

No new polys at the moment. Winter weather is here and I don't like to winter purchase fish. to many possible delays and weather issues. If a replacement were to come it would be spring.... unless I was going down to Portland for a weekend and stopped at Wet Spot and got a WC Volta endli... but it is way too small and would be in a growout for a few months.

Morning update, not much but all from this morning

Tank after light came on. The three cichlids are out and watching me. Polys are all hiding behind the big Mopani to the left.

Always fun to be greeted by a happy pearsei. She is saying 'Hi, is it time to eat yet?'

Snook is always watching but not as interactive as the pearsei. kind of like the difference between a cat and dog. the snook interacts on its own terms.

The Heterospilus, a nice little male that can show some outstanding colors. Just woke up so it is still faded.

Only two poly somewhat out this morning, the weeksii and the teugelsi who is still large and bloated. Time to pull him out and treat with Epsom salts for his bloated, overeating condition.

Ive actually given some thought to rehoming the teugelsi and not replacing him with another poly but something that swims in the upper area. The five polys left are fine for me and scratch my poly itch just fine.

Before I started down the lower jaw path, I had wanted to add a bala shark to my tank. I did but apparently it was too small and got ate, lol. So if I could find a large bala or something else for the upper area, this is what I would likely do. I have had a pink tail before and like them a lot but would need a sizeable one not to get eaten. Ive kept a flagtail which I really liked but man it was mean!

Flag tail usually doesn't work with polys. Balas like to school which is something to keep in mind. I like balas too but have not look if they annoy my wolf with their constant back and forth swimming and have no defense so they get mauled. I watched him bite one in the head once and kill it just instantly. His tooth must've got the right spot, blood was immediately drawn from its gills. My odoe is my only top swimmer. You could probably get a couple in there, they grow fast ime.

I can't remember, you ever add the dabola back?

The flagtails can be very aggressive toward tankmates. Mine hated silver dollars with a vengence. Ive heard they can be some nasty slime suckers.

As for balas, Ive talked with a few who have had them solo and had no issues and mine worked out great by itself until the lower jaws came into the picture and it became food.

As to the Dabola, mine has always benn with the others,it was J jaws7777 who had to separate his out.
