Good news is you know they're not sick--they'll eat if you act right. Bad news, is you have to act just the way they want to get them to eat. I've heard this a few times about Jags--they can be very picky when they're young.

Starve 'em. :)

Yeah, I've been going back through a lot of old threads in this forum and the more I read the more I see what you just said. Until about 6-7" they're skittish and picky eaters. Of course that's not always the case but I see that a lot.

Do you think the size of pellet I'm feeding is too big? Again, they're about 4 1/2 to 5" and the medium sinking pellet I have it 5mm and the mini floating is 2mm. I cut the 5mm in half.

I feed fish smaller than 4-5 inches 3 mm pellets all the time. You might try the same brand pellets Jeff Rapps was feeding them--maybe they just want to see what they used to eat.

I think Rapps feeds Xtreme cichlid food.

Or the fish are just not used to the new environment. I have a Royal Pleco I haven't seen in a month. Had to push him outta his stump yesterday to be sure he was still alive.

Takes time, they'll start eating.

Update: They're eating pellets! I'm having to quarter the 5mm sinking pellet but they're eating so I'm happy.

They're also changing in color. One of them got really dark which looks like they're adult pattern. The other is still looks light colored with the bars. They're coming out a lot more and are pretty fun to watch.

Took almost 2 weeks. Interesting. I'm very curious to see how your Jags turn out when they're bigger. What collection point are the wild ancestors of your Jags? That's very important detail for later, so ask Jeff and tell us? :)

I'm looking for a bright white Jag, with a very very fine black pattern, and that's turning out to be a lot harder to nail down than I first thought. Seems I need to know what collection points Jags that look like that come from--which lots of people don't really know about their jags.

Ask Jeff, he'll tell you, and then I'll know in about 6-8 months when you post pics of yours again.

good looking fish, the darker color is do to stress, more than likes being dom,ed by the other, good job getting them broke to pellets, best thing for them. watch the dark one as they could become a problem.

I'll be sure to ask him. I'm very interested in knowing myself.

Thanks! The darker one is being bullied here and there by the lighter one. The lighter of the two swims around in the open a lot while the darker hides at the top of the canister intake. Whenever it comes out of hiding the other chases it back to its spot. Every now and then they are seen swimming around together. There isn't any damage to the darker fish which is surprising to me.

best course of action is to either divide them or re home the one being bullied. other wise life will not be good for it. A stressed fishes immune system will be compromised and will not reach full potential.

So here's a picture update for you guys. I took a few shots during my water change today. Look at the difference in color. It's amazing how peaceful they are when doing a water change. They're always out and about side by side during water changes.
