125 gallon salvini tank mates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Honestly, everytime I looked at the tank it felt kind of empty, It had about 30-40 caves however, all natural-looking made of rock and some PVCs for bridging and security purposes. The Jags would breed every 2-4 weeks and never killed anything.

What we're the dimensions if this 120 Frank

I feed lightly everyother day to 3 x per week for the polys and the pearsei gets romaine and a mix of nls. I noticed a drastic drop in waste production when the pearsei was in a time out in another tank and the 150 had double the polys. I feel that the poly's produce less waste... maybe its their inactivity/metabolism who knows but when ever i see community tanks with cichlids 10 to 12 inches or better the first thing i think of is my god either nitrates must be through the roof or what a chore the wc's must be.

Anyway havent measured the pearsei but hes gotta be 12 to 13 inches so for me its a chore
My dovii @14" could do a pretty good job of fouling the water solo in his 125, and he wasn't shaped like a dinner plate.

I generally feed veggies the day or 2 before WCs.....decaying vegetation is HORRIBLE on your water quality and screws up the ammonia and nitrate levels big time

Of course but the fish is a herbivore just like many of the vieja tanks that are crammed full of fish and are a dime a dozen on youtube. To be fair to them maybe some are on a autodrip system but not all

Amd the romaine is inly given 2 or 3 times a week. Pellets are mostly algeamax.

Filtration is a 30 gal sump full of bio (2 laundry bags) filter socks can last 2 weeks but i change them twice a week....figure get the junk out of the system instead of letting it sit

Thats exactly what i mean rob. Theres no way a 125 to 180 gal full of 12 +inch cichlids is gonna be the run of the mill 50 to 75 % wc per week.

standard, nothing special 60"L X 18"W X 24"H
I'm just trying to imagine all those large growing fish in that footprint
A pair of jags.male has potential to hit 18 inch
Female about 12
6 Jack Dempseys around 8 to 10 inches each
Several flower horns plus the other cichlids plus catfish plus caves.
I'm trying to imagine that.
I consider my 220 gallon too small for a pair of jags on their own.
That can't have been a nice environment for the fish to live in.

I think sometimes people fail to realize bioload does not double when a fish grows from say 6" to 12". It's more likely quadrupled.

I mean, yea it shouldn't work......but it did, so now you have to ask yourself why and how was it possible? I don't have ALL the answers, but I do know what fish generally will live together

It couldn't work for any length of time, surly?
How long were they all kept together in this tank?
