Opinions are good.We can learn from them or ignore them.
The forum would be rather boring without opinions.
Being treated like a liar, that's something else entirely.

Sure opinions are good but once said more than once or repeated many times its no longer useful toward the thread at hand

It's only natural that an opinion gets repeated.
If you post a pic of your hetro and ten people like it,that's ten people of the same opinion.
Plus a general sensus of opinion can point to the most favourable answer.
There are a lot of people on the forum and they are all entitled to share their opinion. We can't all just stay mute because our opinion is the same as the last poster.

Yes and im posting mine ;)

Sure 10 people can hit like because they like the pic and yes thats 10 opinions but had 1 person constantly said he liked my het it would be counter productive and just not needed, now had that person continually stated that my tank was overstocked when i was not asking for any stocking advice but merely shwoing off my fish is what im talking about.

Happens all the time, i can understamd someone suggesting on how to improve the stocing of someones tank. Its when the OP or other members posting arent asking for advice that i mainly talking about.

Just happened with this thread.... the thread was completely derailed...im part to blame ( sorry op) but it was a legitimate question on how much effort goes into maintaining over stocked tanks which in the end the replies to that questiona may have still benifited op. Instead the thread became....well what it became.

I see your point but people are passionate about their hobby and I don't think it will change.
I personally like to hear everybody's opinions even if it's different to my own.
There's two sides to every story.I see nothing wrong in people giving their opinion.

there's not always 2 sides....

Exactly !

I see nothing wrong with it either but when it becomes a debate when the subject of the debate doesnt include the op and if it did but is not what the op was discussing in the first place.... well imo its just not needed.

You and frank both know your cichlids...both have some great fish....and are on two different ends of the spectrum in regards to stocing and probably in aquascaping. Thats great because its what works for each of you.... me im in the middle... what works for both of you doesnt work for me and thats fine too. I find differences in how we care for these pets waaaaay more interesting that debating differences in OPINIONS.

All im saying is if someone starts a thread on stocking as i did a last week... then sure all the comments and debates regarding stocking are great... someone starts a thread to show off a pic of a healthy looking fish (not beat up and ripped apart) and the thread turns into a pissing contest all too often

One more thing. If a guy posts a pic of a jag in a 40 gallon breeder and asks"what should I feed this fish"?
And then someone pipes up and gives their opinion that it is cruel to keep that fish in that size tank, irrespective of the topic posted about.
I find that commendable.
Opinions shape the world it's what democracy is built on and impossible to avoid.
It's ironic it's your opinion not to give opinions.
