lower jaw polys in a 55gal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How frequently are ornates aggressive? I think they are so cool looking but I hesitate because I read so many stories about them causing problems.

I am so tempted by the Teugs WetSpot has right now.

But I am in a similar spot with a smaller tank that won't be upgraded for 1+ year.
Ornate really depends, some are a**hole some are ok. I think most fish are like that. If you have multiple polys ornate are pretty quite.

I think if I ever want to do an ornate I might wait till I upgrade and get it pretty small with a bunch of other polys already in the tank. That might be my best bet.

Yes, if you get an ornate now and grow it out, your next poly needs to be same size the ornate, could be a little smaller than the ornate bit grith needs to be big.

magpie magpie I had the same concern about ornates and took that exact approach. My ornate is my most recent acquisition and is the smallest of the bunch. I'm hoping that it will be kept in line by being the small guy, at least for a while

I think that strategy will work. Mine was a jerk to anything smaller. Once i started adding polys the dame size or larger he chilled out

the more I think about it, the more I think about my love for the big 3. Possible options are:

-ornates,
-teugelsi
-weeksii.
-If I go Endli, I think starting with a cb endli would be a good idea before I go into WC endlis.
-delhezi
-whatever poly is in the last picture.

~~~~~~~
--Delhezi if it had really thick bands or was a tiger delhezi. That might be a good idea and smaller than a weeksii. Is this a delhezi?
-Also very drawn to this type of poly: Beuttikoferi? Granted those are probably extreme/grade A specimens.
Note: I do not own these images.Using them for ID purposes only.
basically I want something that has a lot of color/pattern. (2-3 Poly that I choose might be only fish in the tank :/ Although I'd love to get a cichlid or two.
