Passenger Dragged Off Of U.S. Airlines Flight!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

Just watched the vid.... inmates are treated better and allowed to get away with a hell of allot more. All of that so someone else could take his seat ??? No bueno

I most likely would have refused to give up the seat i paid for too. Especially if i knew it was not an emergency situation but for an employee.

If you are referring to my comments, please note that I was just responding to a question. Racial prejudice is alive and thriving in asian minority groups. Calling any asian a wrong nationality, is just not a nice thing to do and should be avoided. Dr. Dao was also referred to as a "chinaman" in this thread. The word is considered a derogatory term.

From Wickipedia: The term Chinaman is described as being offensive in most modern dictionaries and studies of usage.[23] It is not, however, as offensive as chink.[24] The New Fowler's Modern English Usage considers Chinaman to have a "derogatory edge",[25] The Cambridge Guide to English Usage describes it as having "derogatory overtones",[24] and Philip Herbst's reference work The Color of Words notes that it may be "taken as patronizing".[26]
i was not referring to your comments directly, but rather making a general comment about how this incident is being spun as a racist act by united rather than a poorly executed one. i agree that "China-man" is a generalized derogatory term used towards people of asian descent and should not have been used in this thread

On another note, not all experiences of volunteering to leave an overbooked flight are negative. My kids vacation to the Hawaii had come to an end. Their flight was overbooked. They were paid $1000 each and put in a 5 star hotel for three nights. Since most of their work with clients is over the phone, they worked from the beach for another three days. Their experience is probably an exception to the rule. Conversely, what if a person had a job interview, was rushing to get to a loved one dying in a hospital or was even about to start their dream vacation in paradise somewhere. Getting booted off a flight and stuck in Chicago or Timbuktu would not work. I would be more than an unhappy camper. And if United pulled the same stunt on me, I would never go on another job interview again, and I would be able to spend 365 days a year in any paradise that caught my fancy.

I wonder if the doctor is still in the hospital.....at the very least, he is suffering from PTSD...he may be no longer able to work in his profession. And what about the embarrassment and humiliation of being on viral videos. One moment sitting on the plane minding his own business, a couple of minutes later the subject of viral videos with reporters digging up all the dirt they can find. By the time everything is said and done, I bet he will not have to work, and he will be able to live in paradise. I read that he is an avid poker player. He just won a huge pot.

when i was younger i always rooted for overbooked flights, cash, dinner, and a nice place to crash.

I'm from UK but flown united once ... was awful .. I was told to switch seats because the two people in front of me were both overweight :-/ I didn't mind but it was the way I was barked at

Hello; I learned something from this thread. I did not know chinaman is an n type word. I used the term in ignorance.
Back in my post graduate days I shared a dorm room with a guy from Hong Kong. We got along just fine
One more note: I had already decided the guy was at fault before learning of his ethnic background.

Their customer charter actually states overbooking passengers cannot be removed by force.. he had every right once boarded and seated to refuse and certainly didn't deserve physical violence ... this was not even a clear cut overbooking .. it was also due to the fact they hadn't planned staff transport adequately and let the passengers on the plane .. their fault and down to them to resolve in a voluntary way by offering more cash .. not stopping at 800 dollars .. one guy even volunteered for 1600 and they turned him down Flat
