Polypterus with Oscar and FM?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Meanwhile I can get them by the dozen here. Advantages of being located near to an inporter who gets a LOT of African stuff in :)

What about a wc sen? Is there anyone else who even keeps them here?

Yes even wc unless purchased larger. Even a wc sen would most likely take a long time to hit anyehere near the 16 inch mark. Even if available i would assume most people would still choose the wc that we do have access to based on past mfk discussions

Hao Hao explained why toyin doesnt bring them in

I'll be the test dummy for the size.

I guess it's just the accessibilitythat makes them able to compete with foreign bred sens. where did hao post it?

Would go toward the larger lower jaw polys. Like lapradei and endli. Would be better to deal with a cichlid and a potentially large cichlid.

Mainly cause cichlids can be territorial and larger polys will better handle it. Just IMO.

Another vote for the medium sized lower jaws. Lapradei and cb endli in particular as they get sufficient bulk / girth and stick to the lower strata unlike some of the smaller, more active upper jaws. My old Nigerian lap took heat from no one.

I'd be hesitant with senegals - no question a great fish and readily available, but if you get a male they don't get the same bulk to them as females do and might look more like a worm to a hungry oscar. Or at least an easier target.

I'm also worried about the size of a Sen with an Oscar.

What do you guys think about a wild caught Delhezi, if grown out? I wonder if Toyin ever gets larger ones to start so he wouldn't have to grow it out as much?

What about Weeksii?

Do you think 100 gallons is sufficient for life for a CB Lap or Endli?

Hao said that people aren't into Sens enough and can get CB for a dime a dozen (like $7-8). Sens aren't "exciting" enough for the average Joe to be worth the price to import like the other polys might be.

I was gonna ask would a 100 gallon tank be sufficient for the lifespan of either CB Lap or Endli? If so, there is a place by me that stocks the Endli's.

Just want to get as much info and advice as possible, to ensure the fish I get are happy and healthy :)
