What type of bio media does your friend intend to run in this 2217? Is it going to be one type of media, or a mix? I'm assuming you're asking because he needs to know how much to buy?

I would still have some type of sponge or mechanical media upstream of the bio though. You don't want chunks of stuff clogging the bio.
