what's in the QT?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mhhhh pea puffers can live in that small of a tank ? Mhhhhhh

Whats the plans for qt ? If a week parasite treatment then maybe no need to stress the qt cycling thing. I usually do 2 rounds of pg (4 days) then a couple more to see if it eats if alls good in the hood thats it.

If planning tp leave in qt to observe than maybe get it cycled
I think I'll just do a weeklong parasite treatment in that case. Don't want to wait for the QT to cycle. Been doing 1 rounds of pg per week as well for a total of 2.

For the main tank water change, if I add hose water to it directly, will it kill the BB? The hose water is chlorinated. Was thinking of filling it up with the hose and then pouring in dechloronator as it is filling. Or do I have to mix it with dechloronator completely, before adding it to the tank?

For Pea puffers I believe the minimum tank size is 10 gal. Although idk if I want to give up my QT
Yeah, I was looking into it when my Betta was acting weird (he's fine now) they are LITTLE. Only for one though. If you want more this article says 3-5 gallons per puffer but I've read on forums that you should err on the side of more room with a group, so 5 gallons per puffer. Some will do 3 in a 10 gallon if it's heavily planted... it's a mixed consensus thing from what I've read.

Caveat - I have zero direct dwarf puffer experience! ;)

lol that's the site I used to get my puffer info from. Was also gonna say 3 dwarf puffs for a 10 gal. I feel like she needs some friends lol. But idk yet if I want to give up my QT. How's your puff meatball doing?

Will post pics tomorrow. She likes to sleep in the swords

When I do water changes I put in Prime first, then add tap water. I am not sure if that should change if you're cycling a tank though. Someone else will chip in.

Meatball is doing great! I'm so happy to have a puffer! Can't wait to see pics of yours.

Yeah pea puffers can be aggressive with conspecifics so you need to break up line of sight. Lfs which I trust says 3-5 in heavily decorated 10g at most. Be better in something like a 20g long but that's also assuming the majority are female.

yup 1 or 2 maybe3 if you have lots of plants and wood so everyone has own area. Also depending on that particular fishes attitude. They are only 1" max, most are teeny tiny specs when you get them.

Yay Meatball! Unfortunately my little puff got stuck in the filter. :/ So no pics.
Thank you and ocellatus ocellatus for convincing and encouraging me to put plants in my tank. My tank has never looked better! Still gotta get that light situation fixed though so the plants will grow nice and green like both of yours.

Also have some driftwood pieces I can put in. Can take out some of the rocks to make the tank more poly friendly. But it's gonna be a while.

unfortunately the pea puffer passed away. Got stuck in the filter intake. :/ That sounds right to me with the 3 in a 10 gal. It's crazy how puffers can be aggressive to their own kind. The females are less aggressive?

Currently I am having the aggression problem with my new blood parrots. The one is hiding up in the corner of the tank. I put multiple hides in the tank. All they do is hide. Was hoping they would swim around a little more lol. Although one of them must be eating, 2 of my glo danios are gone.

Your tank is looking good!

Time to get those plants rooted well prior to polys coming along to disturb them. They should do quite well in medium light thrown by LED or T5HO.

In terms of T5HO I've found that the 6400k spectrum bulbs produce a softer light more toward the red/ yellow end of the spectrum , whereas the 10 000k bulbs produce a crisper, cleaner light as they run more towards the blue end of the spectrum. Both will grow aquarium plants well. For looks I prefer the 10 000k.

When do you get your new light?

O

I'm so sorry to hear about your puffer! :(

Tank is looking good, and some wood will add a nice dimension. The light will help a lot so your plants can grow. I know $ is tight but getting one soon will prevent losing plants that you already spent money on.

Hopefully the BPs will settle more with time and more fish!

Sorry to hear that. Females are less aggressive to each other and the male will spread his "attention" between all the females. Line of sight is big with them too, if they don't see a lot of each other there is less aggression.
Tank looks good.
Cichlids are....... well cichlids. You can give them multiple hiding spots and they will still fight over 1 in particular spot then one day they will be fighting over another spot. Hopefully they get it figured out. Like magpie magpie said more fish may help the settle down.[/QUOTE]

thanks O! I just purchased the sunblaster 6400k last night. It's the 4ft one you had linked before. Should be here on Thursday. Reflector for it comes next week. Still trying to figure out how I am going to clip or set it on top of the tank. Hoping that some of my plants will come back from the dead lol. Do you have the 10,000k on your teug or ornate tank?

How long would you suggest leaving it on each day for a 55gal with Val's, amazon swords, and dead anubias nanas?

Thank you, Mags! You actually re convinced me to buy it from this post. Have been looking at in on amazon for weeks. It should be here on Friday at the latest I think.

The parrots are quite silly. One likes to sit on the algae scrubber and the other one likes to dig holes in the sand!
