what's in the QT?

the parrots were the ones that were breathing hard, but the puffer has been freaking out the danios(or at least yesterday). It was very odd. It seems everyone is back to normal now. I'm just afraid if one of the polys eats it.....should I take it out?

HOLY CRAP I THINK I HAVE NITRATES. (added in some water yesterday.....no declorinator...let it sit for 24 hours first).

To me it looks like between 5-10ppm.

What do I do now? am I supposed to do a water change now? Sounds very basic, but I have never had nitrates before. hahaha. I'm excited. This is probably the longest I've ever gone without doing a water change( 3 weeks or so).

IS IT SAFE TO ORDER POLYS !!!??!!

Cycled !!!!!! It takes 5 min for the nitrate test to be accurate. Dont feed like crazy because you'll overwhelm your bb colony. Yup order some polys but not from DDDP lfs !! Haha keep testing water periodically for ammonia. As you add fish and the ones you have now grow you may need to add bio.

Also do a quick nitrite test. Should be 0 but lets be sure.

From now on you should be fine adding dechlorinator during wc's

When should I do a water change? And how much should I change?
I've still been feeding the danios every day. They are pigs and always hungry. Will cut it back to every other day.

yeah been avoiding the DDDP store like the plague. Thinking of ordering from Wetspot cause they have the polys I want....Just gotta get the blood parrots out of the QT first.

magpie magpie : any recommendations for water change frequency, amount/when to do it when nitrates get to a certain point? The swords look good still (it's a miracle). Vals and anubias= looking sorry. I still need to figure out the lighting situation. The light that I've been using on the tank is an old 10 gal hood light lol.

Still Trying to decide between doing the RGB LED strips( I currently have those) or getting a Sunblaster as my main light.

Just buy the slow grower first, then get the fast grower last.

Being that the colony is young do 50% water changes but i woukd bump it up to more down the road. You decide when you eanna do them by testing. Say you dont want nitrates over 20ppm test amd figure out how many days it takes to hit 20 then you do your wc

aw man now I want to ask how fast a few of them grow. But then I can't do the what's in the box thread. lol. o_O

I'm thinking of getting 3. Was gonna get them all at the same time to save on shipping, but hmmmm. Maybe I'll get 2. :rolleyes:

Pm someone you trust the most about growth rate , then you can do whats in the box;)
