If unable to buy a lid. Can u make one out of materials around the house?

Free glass comes up on Craigslist or search for free items containing glass that's not tempered. Try to youtube a 'how to' cutting glass. Just ideas for u. If u have polys in there now. I'd suggest lowering the water line. Cuz they'll jump again. Good luck.

Hendre Hendre - you are going to class and things like that. What do you mean not for long? It just takes 30 seconds for a poly to jump out.

You can probably get craft mesh delivered to your house via online shopping and it's super cheap. Better than nothing.

I'm done ranting. Just sad. This forum offers so much help, information, and advice. We owe these creatures the best care that we can give, and through this forum we should be pretty well educated on much of it. Lids are a no-brainer.

It was during a holiday, and I dropped the water level low and all. It was a risk I know :(

So you fixed it already? Was thinking that you hadn't fixed it yet based on what you said in your post. I misunderstood, sorry. Happy to hear you dodged a bullet!

the final tank has a lid and I'm building a proper canopy soon

Angelphish Angelphish , I also agree not to get another poly until you get a lid. Or at least around the same day. Right now I have a piece of acrylic on the tank, that I got at Home Depot for $12 . Or egg crate or polycarbonate are also available there for around the same price. Do you have anything on the top of the tank right now? I know it can be hard trying to figure out odd shaped pieces if you have a light or something like that.

Thankfully I haven't had any jumpers, but two of my polys have tried. The water level in my tank is 2 inches lower from the lip too.

In the meantime would suggest even cardboard or styrofoam and something to hold it down. Even when I didn't have my tank completely lidded, I still did this with the open areas. Just a safety precaution.

While I was at PetSmart to get another Sen, I also get a glass lid for the tank. It was a folding style lid, so it had a plastic hinge in the middle. The hinge blocked the light from my kessil since it's a pendant light, so I removed the hinge and was left with two pieces of glass. They don't fit perfectly, but they're a lot better than having no lids at all.
