Festae Cichlid Progression Thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i fear feeding live food as I don't want my GT to get any illness. How do you guys ensure this doesn't happen to your fish?

With these larger cichlids we put a lot of effort into caring for them and growing them out. GT's are especially slow and I would hate for something tragic to happen.

I dont worry to much about illness from the live foods I feed. I feed earthworm and night crawlers and sometimes crayfish all of them are collected from my own property.
These are not as prone to passing anything to fish.
The risk would be higher if I were feeding live fish as in feeders. They would be more likly to pass a parasitic infection or disease to your fish.

BIG-G BIG-G hit it on the nose. Crustaceans are much more suitable as they are a large % of many cichlids diet in the wild. They are built to eat them. Goldfish for example, are completely different.

Thought I'd share this updated picture of my male. He's really starting to show some potential. I know it's not a great picture, but he's extremely camera shy at the moment and tends to hide at the back of the tank when I get my camera out. I'll try get some better pictures now that he's in his own tank under LED lights. In this picture he was under a single tube in my grow out tank.

Thanks. I'll take a stab at it and say he's actually only around 5-6", without measuring him at the moment. So he's still got a lot more room to grow. I'm amazed with how much brighter he's got in such a short space of time. If you look back at my previous posts, he is much darker and nowhere near as gold as he is now.
