Dilemma feeding live food

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hello; here is a thought experiment. Lets pretend Hendre can shrink you down to the just right bite size of you favorite fish. Lets also pretend that particular fish watches this happen. Say you are dropped into the tank with this favorite fish of yours.

What happens???

Hello; Yeah, that is pretty much the way I see it. I don't see fish having much, if any, empathy or other such touchy/feely emotions.
Many fish will eat their own eggs and fry, especially the egg scatters and the live bearers.

Fish will pick a dead or dying tank mate down to the bones.

And yes if I were bite sized and dropped into my tank with a fish I had raised and cared for with love and kindness, I would be a snack.

Hello; Who you gonna call - Kittie Katt. I bet she can give us a no nonsense take on all this "do fish feel guilty" question.

Hello Hendre; how do you get that thing which sends a notice to another member? Kittiee katt is this case. I wanted to do that in my post but did not know how.
Just put @ before their name. Gives a drop down suggestion list too

Hello; I do not think that worked. Is there another step?
Must be right next to the @ symbol

My take on it is that live food isn't completely necessary, depending on what you're doing. In fact it could almost be?

I feed almost exclusively pellets with some freeze dried and rare frozen foods. Live foods are earthworms, rarely white meal worms and once baby spiders.

Insect's are my live food of choice, usually being a safer option too. I'd only use live food for fish that won't eat frozen or dead foods. Even then insects could be taken.

For breeding fish I have used daphnia, or attempted breeders. Stuff like that is a great aid to conditioning and I'm trying to culture my own now to see if I can use it again.

Quarantined feeders are okay, but I'd still say if there's alternatives use them. Just my opinion :)
