Effect of having large driftwoods in tank.

Thanks :) my worry is ph might drop too low . I'd like to maintain it between 6.5 to 7.2 . My worry is i have too much bio load

What you can do to maintain the pH in that range and prevent it from dropping below that is to make a solution using seachem alkaline buffer, potassium bicarbonate or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), in a dropper bottle and add drops from that to the tank daily in order to maintain KH and pH. I do this in my tanks which have a high bioload.

How much you need to add will depend on your KH and how much bicarbonate you mix into the bottle.

How long did that take? I want a royal for my 150 and am looking to get a nice big piece of wood for him to gnaw on...
It depends on the wood. The center stuff is all wood that I collected along Lake Ontario, so it's a softer wood than the mopani or Malaysian stuff. It took my 3 royals about 2 years to break it down. I have a bunch of other plecos in there so I'm sure they contributed to it as well.
