75 gallon stock?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice!

I don't know enough about Sevs to tell you, however at only 1" I'm not sure how much patterning they show. Someone else will chime in I'm sure.

Lost a male diamond tetra.

Did not see what happened but my guess is the acara nailed him in the perfect spot to kill him.

Tank was calm then all of sudden the tetras took off fast in a group. Looked over and saw blood streaming out of the males gill. He probably bleed for like 5 seconds and the bleeding stopped. He swam normal for another 30 seconds and then started crashing into the bottom and falling over on his side.

The festivum went after him so I put the tetra in a net. I left him in the net over night and the next morning he was actually looking better and able to swim. Kept him in the net but he was dead this morning.

I can see blood spots in the gill but nothing that looks like a bite. Seems weird to me that a bite would be able to get under the gill plate on such a small fish.

What do you guys think? Perfect bite or something else?

I would like to add a raphael catfish. Anyone see a problem with this?

Angel and festivum will be removed in the future.

They get along fine together. I have 3 other cichlids who when they get larger may bully them.

1- 3" blue acara
1- 1" rotkeil
1-3/4" sajica

Anticipated stock a year or however long it takes the fish to get large enough to become a problem would be.

1-blue acara
1-rotkeil
1-sajica
1-l091 pleco
8- diamond tetra

1- raphael catfish ???

75gallon fx6 filter

Thanks

You've already gotten some good advice, but here's my current experience with a few of the fish you've discussed.

I've got a black angel and rotkeil in my 75. They were young when I put them in last November and are now both about 4" long. The rotkeil has been a perfect citizen in the tank for the past 7-8 months. It never bothers my tetras and only gives a quick chase to keep the angel out of its very small territory in the back of the aquarium.

The angel on the other hand is a complete butthead with everything in the tank including the rotkeil. It tried to kill another angel immediately after my wife put the new angel in the tank, and it wants nothing within a foot of it when it's eating. We put a small electric blue acara in with them about 4 months ago. It's growing like a weed, but like the rotkeil is completely non-aggressive for now. And yeah the angel chases the acara away as well. What a miserable creature. Great fish though. I call them the 3 Stooges. They're all very interactive with people.

As I've quickly learned after starting my aquariums about a year ago, it all depends on the particular fish, especially when it comes to cichlids. My 125 is just as weird as the 75, but with the exception of the angel drama all I've seen is chasing and no serious attacks.

One thing I did not like about a raphael is that you tend to have to spend time looking for it when it is not eating. That's the perks of owning nocturnal fish.
