The Hujeta Beani like to be kept in groups I believe, how about just adding 4 more of those to your stock list? 1 male 3 female. That would probably be better than adding a school of another species, in my opinion.

Yes I would add more of the hujeta gars, it will make for a very interesting tank
Yeah but I can't seem to find adult hejuta's. They are all so small.

And I would like a group fish that swims around in the tank. Most of my fish don't do that or only when I feed them

Instead of schooling fish why not just open water fish, angel fish, convicts, firemouths, sajica cichlid, salvini and severums could work, there are many active cichlids that would work with your tank

But they won't form a group right? they will just hide around the wood and occasionally come out.

I think I will just add the fish and then see what happens. If I like the way it is it's stays that way. If I get a sudden love for the hejuta I will add more of those. If I think it's empty on the open sides I will look for some scholing fish.

Hejuta's only group when they are small as they grow bigger they it's possible to keep them alone
btw how can I see the difference between male and female?

Not sure how to sex C beani, but with regular ctenolucius hujeta, the females are larger than the males and have a smaller anal fin with w straight edge, wheras the males have a larger anal fin with a frayed edge. C Beani is a very similar species so this may work as well?

Hahaha they are indeed very similar, so similar that they are the same.;)
The only difference is the old and the new name.

Really? huh, I was not aware. Aren't the C. Beani brown and black mottled though? Perhaps just a color morph like calico convicts?
