What’s up guys, new to this sight, but been in the hobby for about a year. Just wanted to get your opinions about a predatory oddball type 125 gallon tank I am planning on setting up in the coming months. The stock I plan on keeping would consist of 3 senegal bichirs, 1 tuegelsi bichir, 1 delhezi bichir, 1 black ghost knife, 1 spotted pike characin, and an albino tiger oscar. if possible id like to add an eel, maybe a peacock, black spotted, or tire track. I have the bichirs and characin currently in a custom growout tank until the 125 is setup. They’re ~7” and eating like champs. All opinions and thoughts welcomed, thanks!

I would be cautious of adding the Oscar. Maybe a severum or some cichlid that’s a bit friendlier. Spotted pike characin would get picked on easily by a Oscar.

Also the peacock eel would be a better choice. Need to get one that grown out as it’s slow growing and the size difference will be a problem with polys due to sharing same spaces and nipping or biting behavior.

thanks for the reply! i’ve looked at severum actually, but I think they may be a little too “normal” for the tank, any other suggestions for a oddball type centerpiece?

Would try some bush fish (3-4).

those are pretty cool, would a gold datnoid overstock my tank?
No but it may predate on the other fish. They get bigger much quicker. If it can fit in it’s mouth then that’s the problem.

That sounds like al lot of large fish for a 125 gallon to me. I would do more like
-3 bichirs of your choosing
-pike characin
-Oscar

The Oscar will create a lot of waste. If you want the other bichirs and BGK, I would recommend going with a smaller cichlid then an Oscar. Plenty of options, geophagus would work if you had sand.

I would prefer a smaller species of cichlid, but I love the personality of the oscar, and how they are such big eaters. What smaller species cichlid would be best for a bgk?
