Toni and Nemo my albino Oscar's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well bad news, Toni ate the Jewel. I tried to reintroduce them, the Jewels. Changed tank around and all that. Same thing started to happen, bigger one nonstop chasing the little one. So I rescued the little one again. Three hours later I see it, a quick snap of her jaws and she swims off into a corner like she does when she eaters her carnisticks to chew them up. So I get up and look, sure enough I see it in her mouth.

So my two 55gal tanks are about 8in away from each other. And at times they try to get at each other. So I caught Toni throwing a fit cause she can't get to the JDs.

So just setting my mind at ease. From all that I read, and watched on YouTube and such says that the characteristics that Toni displays says she is female. They say that males have a more longer slender body compared to females being more round/ovalish. Also it says that males dorsal and anal fins overlap the tail fin. And lasty the vent for males is two simular sized holes, where as females have a bigger and smaller hole.
This is how I come to determine that Toni is female. Here are some vent pics (fish porn OMG)

As we can see here, one small one bigger hole.

Here we can see that her Dorsal and anal fins come up to her tail, but don't overlap her tail.
It would be hard to do the body shape comparison without a male, but compared to some Oscars I have seen at the Wet Spot that are her size, she is a lot more oval shaped.
So just wondering if you all agree with me?

Oscars aren’t sexable w/o seeing them lay eggs or fertilize said eggs. If you’re not planning on breeding then it doesn’t matter what pronoun you decide to use.

Edit: still one of the best looking albino oscars kept in a 55 that I’ve seen.

Well it finally happened, Toni got pissed off and ate one of the sharks, well half of it anyways.

I saw her do it. I was wondering why she was slowly swimmig strait down, BAMM she strikes and swims off with it in her mouth....l am like NOOOOO! Then my ride shows up to take me to the store and such so I had to leave mid eating. I get back and the tail end is just sitting on the sand.

Needless to say when I got back I moved the remaining three to my JDs tank. I know for sure they can't eat them.

I would say its a female. venting is the only way you can tell them apart. Nice Oscar. If it can fit in an Oscars mouth sooner or later it will. Small fish are food for them. But never feed them feeders.

So my son's mother text me, come get these male Platty's. Apparently they are over breeding her tank. The Convicts I gave her in December are in their own tank in the son's room. So no longer directly controlling the Platty population. So she gives me the 2 males and like 25 fry to feed to my cichlids. Toni got the 2 males and the fry was split between the rest, JDs, Jewel, Juan Carlos even got some.

Nice fat belly hehe20180113_210659.jpg

So if all pans out, I will have a 6ft tank for Toni and later on Juan Carlos next month. So it seems that my Roselines are not going to work out unless I buy some full grown ones.

Does anyone know what Oscars swim with in the wild? Silver dollars?

Also does anyone know of a active catfish that won't get to big for a 125? I had pictus but to small for Oscars. Raphael cats never come out in the day time. I have an Oceloted Synadonis, again hides all day. So a catfish that gets to about 10in and active if there is such a thing.

The new tank will at first have 2 AC110s on it. A month later it will get an FX4 and another a month later for a total on 2 AC120s and 2 FX4s. Not sure if the 2 ACs are ok for a month with just Toni in it or wait till the first FX4 at least.

I just may save up for some bigger Roseline sharks, I miss how clean they kept the tank.....
