That is good heating. I suspect my heat loss is to being uncovered. Also the high flow. Sp6 at 1/2 throttle, fx6.

Just have to get through winter.

Now my only concern is my background. The polystyrene has shut down the breeding, one of the main reasons for the build.

I really like your backgrounds

Looking forward to the next, but that will be years away.

Ya know what you just brought up a point that may be why. I have high flow as well with dual fx5/a big power head/and wave maker...but mine is totally enclosed. All I have open is a 1" feeding hole. I bet ya that is why mine holds so much heat, I didn't even think of that.

What do you mean the polystyrene has shut down the breeding? Why would that be?

Here is a link to a post I made about breeding.

I read the articles that were added. Makes sense.

Im so convinced that is what caused it that my next build will not be as elaborate and will have to make sure 100% of the styrofoam is sealed. The internal workings of the sand fall are not. My last system they were not either.

I miss my breeding fish.

Holding @84. Much higher than that I will start loosing tetras and rams.

Soon I may cover. Evaporative loss is CRAZY in the high desert! Also, evaporative loss is extremely cooling too. Many homes are still cooled that way in the SW

Missed that post from ya. Hmmm... I honestly don't think that is the case man. I have DIY 3D BG;s in every tank I have, and I have breeding in almost all my tanks. Even my frontosa tank full Bg breed and fronts are not hard, but not easy like some to breed.

Once intake was sealed off I drained the water and wet sanded the base. No easy task. Once dry I inserted the bulkheads and flooded the floor of the intake with 2 stage epoxy. Once semi dry I filled it with quickset morter mixed with 2 stage epoxy paint. I shortened the stems. Once dry coated with epoxy leaving 1” threaded PVC. Now I have a solid, i mean SOLID base. I cut a new overflow, and invested in ONE 800 watt heater. So now I only have 3 heaters and a UV sterilizer. So I was going to post the other day on the finnex package you have there but I figured mine was a one off but.....
I have that same set up on my 180. The control unit failed about 3 months maybe as many as 5 months into usage. So I replaced it same model. It failed yesterday again. Both times it just stopped working no lights nothing. Which renders the 800w heating element uselss obviously. This tank has only been set up since may 17. Just thought I'd share. Mine is running with a 300w jager atm it's on pretty much everytime I look in the sump so not sure if its just coincidence or its on all the time. Tank temp is 76.8 right where I want it more or less. I'm happy with 76-79.

Yeah. Dont' think I'm a finnex hater or anything I've used and use alot of their products. I used to use the titanium heaters with the remote mounted controls on all my salt water tanks they were hooked to a reef keeper but never had an issue. This controller is just not so good I think, lots of mixed reviews on line.
