Haitiensis Growth Thread

Yeah Gage sold his farm. You could try posting an add on here looking for them or try a Facebook group. There's a team nandopsis that has several successful breeders of haitiensis on there. Some are across the pond but I believe some are in the US as well
Thanks, I requested to join team Nandopsis, if all goes according to plan I should be ordering my fish this week. I decided to get 8 juveniles 1-1.5” and will be heavily scaping my 180 with rock in an attempt to create enough structure. I’ll also be using driftwood and some live plants in case they want to munch on them some.

I ordered 8 1.5”ers tonight from the wet spot, the tank is hovering around 84F and I rescaled today. Not sure if I love how it turned out. Trying to create something natural looking but also give small places for less aggressive individuals to take refuge in.

Sorry I’ve been a little busy lately and haven’t even realized there were comments on this thread. I’m sure your fish have arrived already but I ordered mine through a LFS here in Charlotte, NC and i have no clue who his supplier is. You’re plan sounds pretty close to what I did. I think the biggest deal with young haits is clean water and low stress. I’m not even sure the whole low protein thing is a true story even though i did it. It took me forever to get them to accept pellets after giving them flakes. I will warn you on a few things, set their scape and leave it alone. They absolutely despise when you go in and rearrange their house. My male stopped eating for almost a week when i added the drift wood and stones hahaha. Mine also took big offense to me doing water changes. They will lay on their side for like 10-15 minutes in protest to you changing their water. My tank temperature fluctuated between 84° and 86° and I never had a problem. My tank is running on a sump system so there is plenty of aeration. I also put a sponge filter in the last chamber of my sump for additional oxygen exchange.

They absolutely hate each other. I tried different target fish and dithers and they paid them no mind when it came to their aggression towards each other. But they would hunt the dithers/target fish at night time once the tank lights shut off. I bought 6 and ended up with 4 females and 2 males. The males rarely interacted but the females were beasts in their interactions with each other. Once my dominant male and female formed a pair they began terrorizing every thing. They would patrol the whole aquarium and terrorize the other haits. 2 of them were killed, I removed the other two and put them into another aquarium in which one was killed in 2 days or so and then my male killed my female after they successfully spawned. Now I’m left with one male. He’s about 4” now. Seems to be growing slow imo but he seems healthy so I’m not sweating the growth

Well it sounds like I’m on the right track then. My fish arrived yesterday morning and all are in good health so far. They were taking spirulina flake within an hour or so of being in the tank. They’re really small right now, like an inch nose to tail, almost looks silly in my tank but again I didn’t want to have to grow them in something smaller only to have to move them and cause additional stress. I’ll try and get some good pix of them today, although at this size they’re not much to look at lol.
Thanks for all the detailed information Jhay, these fish have been a species I’ve wanted to keep but was nervous.
