Found Mekong Giant Catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Arrives today. Yup, definitely mekong but very poorly taken care of. Very very skinny, damage mouth, cloudy eyes. Out of 20, only 9 survives. It's amazing how these guys even survive in supplier's care. Really made me furious. Will update on the live ones, need to be fattening a bit.

This one died after a few minutes it was placed in the tank.

First week update! Definitely put on some weight, eats like a pig, not entirely vegetarian. But do look similar to an id shark when they change to darker color. Probably from recessive genes from the hybridisation, but bulge on the head combined with the shoulder what makes it different from id sharks. Barbels exist in juvenile but it's like t-rex arm, too small & doesn't seems to have any function at all. Probably why they lose em when they grow.

*Currently 6-7"

Great video, what did you mean by hybridization?

I've read that farm MGC are hybrid between id sharks. None are pure. Still, recording their growth rate. Hopefully they can grow to huge sizes.
Very interesting,as it would be to compare the looks of a farmed adault MG to those of a wild one.

I hope to be wrong but at the moment they look like IDS to me. Keep up the great work though! I mean with taking care of the fish and updates. Thanks, bro.
