Found Mekong Giant Catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So is the thought that hybrids have slow growth rate? Is there any specification on the fast growth rate claimed, 2" per month? More?

Official data say MGC grow to 150-200 kg (330-440 lbs) in 6 years.

Compare to a 6-year old child of 20-30 lbs, taking into account human adults weigh 1/2-1/3 of MGC adults.

ichthusfish ichthusfish Mine also smuggled but I feel that this is a hybrid. They're available now & then, probably mass produce from a farm but in Thailand, my supplier offer me 2 types, Sa-way (iridescent shark) & prabuk (mekong giant), with pictures, that's how I know that mine aren't id shark.

How fast your mekong grow in a month? You must've collect some data. Mine about 2-3" a month, even with Hikari Carnivore & Massivore. I truly believe that pic below are the wild caught one, same head though but different? Source: arofanatics.

They never recorded the fish by months. So it is hard for aquarist to determine the fish are genuine or not. I surely don't wanna wait 6 years to record if the fish are indeed like in the data.

They indeed grow that rate, not all have the same growth, only 2 out of 7 that have growth of 3", in the pic are 8" fish, the 2 fast growers are currently 9". Will update on their second month with measurement. But let hear ichthusfish data.

Yeah Singapore river safari... I have a yearly pass lol
If you were willing to, next time more and closer shots would be even more helpful, I think. I realize these photos may not be easy to take because of the lighting and glare / reflection.
