there still b monsters here..... lol... i agree not enough big dogs on the block these days but there still out there in the woodwork of the forums... too many nay sayers steering newcomers away from large fish... if someone does have a large fish in a small tank they get berrated to the point of no return/no responses... i dont blame them...
Love your monsters. And I love all the advice and help you give to people with their acrylic questions and problems. Thanks for helping me.

I'm gonna let you all in on a little secret.....second thought nope,I'll keep it to myself.

What's the most you ever lost on a coin toss? Call it...Friendo.

You are correct in all your observations. MFK is not the forum it used to be. The statement in MFKs welcome page hardly applies anymore. "We are a unique community of Fish Keepers who seriously take our hobby to extremes and the NEXT level. The majority of our collections include RARE and EXOTIC Species of all sizes. BIG FISH with BIG APPETITES and BIG TANKS. It's not easy for most people or other "regular" fish keepers to understand why we maintain this type of collection and spare no expense on this fascinating hobby."

The argument has been used repeatedly by the current majority on MFK that it is not about size but about passion. I think there should be a forum called PassionateFishKeepers. The current majority on MFK are have nots--have not big fish--have not big tanks. In the early years of MFK, people would post pictures of their huge tanks chock full of huge fish, and every one called them JDM tanks. In the current atmosphere on MFK, if some one posted a JDM tank, they would be mercilessly flamed for doing so. There is a critical "let's flame everything that gets posted" air on MFK now. People post pictures of their tank and immediately get flamed or criticized..."it would look better with darker/lighter substrate", "your tank is so bare", "I would never have a bare floor tank". There is always someone criticizing something...even when the poster was really proud of his tank and just wanted to show it off. People feel like they have to give advice and correction and critical comment, even when advice was not sought out.

I am not a fan of JDM tanks, but I will NEVER criticize some one who has a JDM tank. We might all be shocked at their surprisingly great water parameters. I currently have a JDM tank, as my poor fish are still stuck in their way too small 300 gallon tank. Life has a way of interfering, and my big tank upgrade is still in progress (after all these many years). Keeping big fish in small tanks without a continuous drip system can be challenging. Water changes are very frequent, (daily), but my nitrates are less than 20 ppm and are usually less than 10. I am looking forward to the day when my fish are in their big tank system with 7 times the water volume of their current tank.

Yes, I, too, miss the big tank threads.
Yeah those photos you sent me were crazy impressive! I concur with richo the queen has spoken.. if there isnt a queen for this there bloody is now, have guys seen her setup? CRAZY.

Why is the new post feed always filled with tiny bloody nano tanks n crap! Posting there nano tanks thinking its acceptable.BS.. There should be a 55 gallon tank limit atleast for fark sake. I thought this was mfk not bait fish keepers.com...

See. I agree but disagree.
When I first joined I only had a 29 gallon.
I was learning about the big fish and I now decided that until I get a 300+ size tank I will be keeping smaller fish.
My plan is to have a 1000+ tank with rays, aros, and pbass.

Here look at my 150 :P

yeah i thought it would be a more monster oriented site at first but it has proven to not be the case. i dont keep any tanks larger than 100 gallons currently but im still an avid researcher and observer of monster fish that others keep, hence why i enjoy this site.

i dont think I'll ever keep huge fish if im being honest, not a big fan of the common monster aquaria like pbass, rays, gars, etc. monster tanks seem like a monster hassle. id like to have a 300 gallon one day and an oscar pond maybe but that is it. theres just so many fish in the under 12" range that are so interesting and fun to keep.

I also agree but disagree.
How dare you not like rays and bass!?! :O
But yes there are plenty of small fish that are great.

Oz fish guy Oz fish guy

A betta in a 8" cube is the same as a lone Oscar in a 450g.

You aro will need 800g to be as happy as that Betta lmao.

You only got a 180, go home till you got a 300 lol.
(Jokes)

Tbf your just seeing the new posts, most of us with 300g plus are not on here every single day, we've been on here years longer than you.
Search the individual forums for monster species, arowana, catfish, polys, rays ect.
In reality you realise any tank short of several thousand gallons is a ****ing puddle mate.
Your Jardini is gonna need 3-400 gallon bare minimum, you best stop ranting and do some overtime:)

Wow crazy topic. I joined this site not because of the name but because of the knowledge i have gained from here so if someone has a sick betta in a 5-gallon tank is that betta help not just important as a sick arapaima in a 10,000 gallon?.

I dont think we should restrict tank size or size of fish to this site but how to care for each fish if its a betta or a dovii they are all living things

Plus i live in NYC in a 3 flight walk up apt that is 600 SF i guarantee my rent is some of your mortgages for a year i have a 125 but because i dont have 300 gallons plus i cant be a part of your forum? some people just have limitations thats out of there control.

And i can bet my single fish is very well taken care of

MFK is not the best site for bettas. AC has a very large Anabantoid Forum. AC is definitely a better site if you have betta questions. If you really have questions about your betta, ask it on AC. There are people on AC who can advise you.

.....and really,if your rent is that high then it's time to relocate.
