Thanks. I'm considering doing something similar. I've got mangroves coming out the top of my tank in a couple of places. Considering sticking a few small pothos plants along the back as well. Do you have any issues with your cichlids eating the roots?

The pearsei tore them apart when I tried pothos a few yrs ago. Im not able to even keep annubias with him. The het, Oscars, argentea, zonatus and JD's never bothered plants.

Vallsineria are tall grassy looking plants and I've always found them to be easy. I do think the ropes really enjoy plants, even if you do fake ones. Mine were always sliding in and out of them.

4 UJ, 3 ropes should be totally fine with one cichlid (esp. not overfeeding), or you could do something like a Ctenopoma or a bunch of African tetras.

Wet spot has ropes on the regular.

Did I mention that I love ropes? :D

Yeah. I need a home for my male T-Bar. He's always been kind of aggressive with everyone that wasn't a bottom dweller (i've had him in a 40b with kuhlis and he's not paid them any attention, same with hoplo cats and plecos) so I'm hoping he's good with the bichirs. He's in there right now with them and chasing the baby BPs that won't be there much longer. I may have to think about a couple of "target" fish for him to pay attention to so he leaves the UJ and Ropes alone.

Just got to watch your vidoe. Adorable! Definitely going to get some. trinsfish.com says they can get some for me so I'll be ordering some soon.

Everyone says they are escape artists. Does that mean all the holes in the back need to be covered or can they raise the glass lids as well? Do I need to weigh them down?

Just every single tiny gap, even if it seems impossible for them to get out. So the duct tape that was mentioned works well for that.

I can't see them pushing a lid open, but maybe someone else will say they might. I've heard that as an issue with lower jaws though.

Are you familiar with egg crate? Would you worry about them fitting through the holes of that?

Ive had one (lower jaw)-Koliba lap) pop open a top and get out. It was a thin glass top so it apparently was not heavy enough to stop a poly at speed from popping it enough to get out.
