Picked up a 535

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good stuff! I just a bunch of my pvc and need to start planning. Hopefully will have the tank up and running in 2-3 weeks. As a first timer, any lessons learned? I’m nervous about the plumbing.

Thank you. I’ll have to do that. Found a small leak at the Union for the reeflo pump. I’ll need to add more putty.

If I close all by ball valves, I can fix these leaks without draining the tank right?

Yep! That’s why you spent the big bucks on the union ball valves. Remember I did the same in the last build.

I would recommend getting a lot of unions and union ball valves.

I would also recommend measuring it all out and measuring twice.

Use a sharpie to mark how you want your joints to line up.

Also, if you mess up on gluing pieces together and you need to pull the apart, heat the joint with a heat gun and then twist and pull the pieces out. I salvaged a union ball valve that way.

I would recommend getting some Weldon 16 in a tube to go over joints where you feel insecure. The bead of Weldon over the joints gave me peace of mind and I haven’t had any leaks.

I would recommend rewrapping the ultima Teflon tape on the unions. I’ll have to take mine apart to do that since there are small leaks.

Lastly, JK47 JK47 is the man to go to when you’re stuck. He helped me tremendously on this build. Thanks again Justin!

Perfect. Thank you! I’ll do that tonight!

Will need to do another round of polish on the front pane again as well.

Now that the sump is all finished and the heaters with the inkbird are all set up and installed, my filtration is complete. Just need to figure out my back wash hose hook ups. Thats a question for my sump thread.

Next step is lighting. I go three Halo Pendant LED’s from Aquaticlife that I’m going to suspend over the tank over each of the openings. I’m hoping this is enough lighting for some basic plants. First time trying these lights and I opted for the Halos over the Kessil mainly from a cost perspective. I have always liked the products from aquaticlife having used their lights exclusively in my planted tank days. If these three won’t cut it, I’ll buy a fourth for more intensity.

The lenses I’m using are 110 degrees. I also have 80 degree lens options but I’m going for a wider spread. If I need to set up four, I’ll switch to the 80 degree lens.

Just have to go to the hardware store to get suspension cables and I’ll have these puppies up and running. The lights consist of one Deluxe version and two basic versions. The basic versions connect to the delis through a daisy chain set up. I’m excited to get these up and running.

How feeling so far about the sand substrate with ultima? How high is your intake off the bottom?

I’m going to paint my bottom black but still love the idea of sand substrate.
