Please do use the pictures. I wish I knew what happened, I didn’t think he would pull through, looked to be in rough shape...if you do find anything please let me know! That is nuts. What a dramatic change. If I get a chance later, would you mind me taking a screenshot of your pictures and asking about it on another site? I’m so curious what could cause that to happen, but then resolve itself so fast.
What is going on with the fish in the back?

Yea he’s my oldest fish, not old for a Goldie but he’s about 8 years old.Oh, ok. That’s good of you to keep him around. I’d have a hard time ending a fish that can still eat just fine and is otherwise healthy.
I love my fancy goldies.
I posted those pictures, and now we wait. I’ll let you know when anything is posted. Some people on that site are very knowledgeable with goldies and koi. So I’m hoping they have seen this before.
Thank you for at least inquiring with another group of people.Well, so far nothing. I only got one response and he is stumped too. And he has seen a lot. His best guess is something viral or due to water quality. Since I’m not convinced it’s water quality I’m leaning towards viral myself. What it is exactly I’m really not sure. But it would explain why it was able to resolve so fast on its own.
If it is viral you could help keep his immune system up by feeding it oranges, lemons, or limes on and off. I give my koi fruit coming into fall to boost their immune systems before winter. Could be worth a try.
