I love flowerhorns. The biggest issue is the massive in breeding has weakened them genetically. Alot die young and alot have hex and pass shortly after purchase.
A good run for a fh is 4-5yrs old where as a quality pure cichlid can live for 10-15years.

Another option is herichthys carpintis
Very oscar like, greedy and will jump for food.
Tilapia buttikoferii is another great wet pet, like a mix of all the above.

get a flowerhorn. this is my little guy but you can get a nice large one, they grow to around 10-12 inches and are very social/aggressive.

Almost finishing the house fight with my wife and daughter....

The results are:

Wife: Oscar, flowerhorn and Vieja synspilium

Daughter: Oscar, flowerhorn

Me: Paratilapia polleni, green terror, cuban cichlids, and more...

But it's me who runs the house. That's why I'm the one who will choose the fish...

And the fish will be...

Oscar or Flowerhorn..:mad::mad:

Now i just need to take some time to decide between them..

And the hunt will start...

Well that should be an easy choice. Oscars are what i would consider semi aggressive while flowerhorn are territorial and aggressive. If you ever have any ambitions to add any tankmates, such as a pleco or catfish, the oscar will tolerate anything too big for it to eat, while the flowerhorn will most likely kill it.

If you wanted to eventually try a breeding pair or group, green terror or cuban cichlids would be a good fit.

But i didnt give up from that idea....
Im still with this on my head...

Just here between US... Im already looking for an empty big corner in the house..:) but that its for a near future..
