Beautiful fish, great personality and I think I’m set on getting a Midas. Would their behaviour change with a female or do you think they would be as interactiveShort clip of my midevil Gentle Ben. Amphilophus sp. make great wet pets, however this one would bite the heck out of you if you weren't careful.
I really can't say this is the only fish of this type I have ever owned and he was always kept as a solo wet pet. The tank in the video is a 5'x18" 100 gallon and he more than filled it up so I never tried to introduce any other fish. I have several much younger lyonsi and they are very subdued compared to this fish, but that could change over time.Beautiful fish, great personality and I think I’m set on getting a Midas. Do you know anywhere to get a trimac or red isletus?Midas are better alone, very likely to kill females in a 125. All his attention will be on you then.
I have a barred isletus in my 90g called Rufus, love him.
I will never be without an amph in my collection.
Trimac is another option...
If you want a Midas you have to buy from rapps or cota ect, all LFS amphs are hybrids.
Buy 5-6 and pic your favourite.
I thought about Lyonsi as I liked their colours but heard they didn’t have a personality to matchI really can't say this is the only fish of this type I have ever owned and he was always kept as a solo wet pet.
