Ugh, that sucks. Sorry to hear that.

I forgot to start our vehicles yesterday so I went out this morning to run them. Both had a really hard start but fired thank goodness! I still have to go out and start the other truck, but it’s across the property in my husbands shop and I really don’t want to go out there It hasn’t been run in a few weeks and I’m afraid I’ve let it sit too long.

Sounds like you need some engine block heaters, just about every car in Alaska (and I'd reckon Canada) has them or they wouldn't start on cold winter days:

My husband has one on his semi truck, but not on our personal vehicles. If this is how winter is going to be from now on we just might need to do something like that.

Hello: Back in 1977 and up to the early 1980's southeast KY had some brutal winters. I use to do some mechanic work on the side and would try to help folks get there cars started.
Often it was not going to happen because they had not winterized. It was carbs back then which were not so easy to start even in mild cold. Often the fuel had water in it. Back then the fuel tanks were metal and would "sweat" on the inside. (Water would condense onto the inside surface of a metal tank.) I always kept my fuel tanks close to full during real cold spells to cut down on condensation. We also put alcohol in the fuel to mix with the water. Now days there is alcohol in the gas at the pump, the tanks are plastic and the fuel systems are better sealed.
Having the wrong weight oil did not help and 10 W 30 was common which got thick in real cold.

One thing I have noticed in the cold weather is that no matter how severely the mercury drops most of the young people I see out and about do not wear warm coats or jackets.They seem to prefer thin looking jackets and hoodies.

Hello; Yes I have seen this many times. It was pretty much the same with both my wives. I think they fully expect to only have to go outside briefly. Say from a car to a store and back. Always figuring being outside will be temporary. Not a wise plan as cold will kill the unprepared.
I use to carry extra warm clothes in a car for the wives. I also have a 70+ friend who likes to wear only a light jacket. Trouble being he drives an older bit of junk that has broken down many times.
But yeah they look much more cool than me wearing my Carrhart jacket and an Elmer Fudd hat.

I'll take a down filled jacket or a shearling coat over a cool looking hoodie on any frigid day.

How timely indeed. I’d drink some but it gives me a bad stomachache. I’ll sip down my mocha mint coffee instead

It’s still -26 this morning. Ugh, it feels never ending right now. I’m trying to stay positive, but my pond is covered in snow and I’m almost 100% positive it’s totally iced over. I’m afraid my koi and goldies will all be dead come spring:’(
I’m no longer selling my remaining koi fry because I fear they will be all I have left.
