Why are these being sold????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Theres a huge difference in giving advice and trying to school new hobbyists than the flaming that occurs.

Guy asks a question about his oscar. Chooses to ignore the advice given and houses it in a 50 gal. All of a sudden the pitch forks come out. Guy gets branded... stops posting. I never ever understood this mentality. I think its an ego thing.

Personally I think it's the right thing to do. Nothing to do with ego. I just don't like to see animals suffer.
There are bigger tanks and smaller fish. It's the keepers choice. Not everyone will agree with that choice.

Let's put it that way...

How many cats has a cat lover killed?
How many dogs has a dog lover killed?
How many fish has a fish lover killed?
True dogs and cats are normally beaten or abandoned.
The dogs and cats sanctuary are full of abandoned horrer stories. It's tragic.

Thats cool its your choice. I dont see that being productive. I'd rather accept the fact that said member isnt taking my advice. Hoping as the fish grows he'll see with his own eyes that the 50 gal is too small. Then he isnt alienated to the point of not posting future questions on how best to upgrade, filtration, tank mates ect ect.

To each his own.

Stan what happens when someone says your tank is too small ? Seriously who gets to decide what a minimum tank requirement really is ? At the end of the day arent they all just best guesses and going off of what others did ?

I absolutely agree with you. Nothing wrong with education.

Tbh im confused why are we stuck on the education thing ?

Because some people are still saying it's bad to advise new fish keeper Johnny not to get an arapaima unless he has a pond a lots of good fish keeping experience :)

But I would also maintain said advice should be given nicely and politely to new fish keeprs, we were all newbies at one time or another.

It was implied in both posts #11 and #111. By saying it's an ego thing you're basically saying it's bad to give such advice. Or maybe you're just saying it's bad to get out the pitchforks, I'm not sure; if the latter I certainly agree, esp. when it comes to those new to the hobby.

Damn this went from a discussion on proper fishkeeping practices into an invasive species lecture then finally a lesson on forum procedures and quoting etiquette.
Lol....all we need are a few IQ references tossed in for good measure.

I do believe it is an ego thing yes when people get all hot and bothered and the flaming begins:FIREdevil:FIREdevil:FIREdevil when a member doesnt take their advice even if it is the correct advice.

Doesnt say anything about not agreeing with the education aspect. :mwave:

islandguy11 islandguy11 not trying to start an arguement but i only dont see where ReApEr666 ReApEr666 was advocating against giving advice.

Reapers post :
"This is MFK... quit being female dogs... we are regulated enough as it is. GET OVER IT! Keeping arapima is no different than keeping a betta... a fish in a box is a fish in a box... u cant keep fish 1 way... and condone others for keeping them another way. its all the same. There will be no hobby left if everyone is butt hurt about keeping certain fish. Laws are bad enough already...zoos are getting shut down and there coming after the general public now for keeping certain fish. All you nay sayers are 100% the problem and root of it all. Grow up and get over it.... Most of the larger fish available in the trade are destined for peoples dinner tables. were doing them a favor by letting them live for any period of time. If you keep fish yourself... take a look in the mirror... your no different than anyone else. "
